Editing Thread titles

James, I spoke briefly with Heather the other night about having someone moderate and/or edit some of the thread titles especially in the General Forum. It would seem that a bit of sensitive but well thought out editing could ultimately make the search function easier to use. What do you think?

Actually, how do you edit a thread title .. I tried once, and couldn't figure it out.

I edit thread titles from time-to-time... to correct spelling errors or make them more meaningful... how much of it I do, depends on how much free time I have available when online.

Do you agree that a bit of editing might make the search function more fruitful?

Yes... mostly. Part of the problem I see is that as the database has grown due to increased use, some search terms have become nearly impossible to search on unless you're a regular on the forum. A search on very common terms, such as "weather" or "tequila" or "bars", yields oodles of posts that one needs to read through. Unless you have hours of free time, it's likely less daunting and definitely easier for a new user to simply post their query and take their lashes. Though that tends to scare many users away... which is not what we want as more new users means the potential for more customers for James and Anna and their various business partners. I think adding some new forums... specific to fares, peep meets, and trip reports... would help keep the info better organized and easier to locate for new users.

I know .. I just meant that one time on one of my own threads, I put a title that needed to be changed.

You can't edit the title to a thread once you've submitted it. You can, however, edit the content of your post. If you've made an error in your thread title, you can simply mention it in a post on the thread or send one of us mods a PM and we'll gladly take care of it for you.
