Hi Lori... If you're looking to beach it my suggestion is to head north up to Kool Beach Club. It's maybe a 10 minute beach walk north of the pier or less than a 3 buck cab ride (depending on where you pick up the taxi).

Kool has a nice chill vibe, good music, and great service and food.

As for shopping, etc. hit the trip planning and directory tabs at the top of the page; that will give you a good start on planning. Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes.

I already introduced myself several days ago but was compelled to add this post to say that this is the _ _ _ _!!!! (Bet you all thought I was going to B O M B, right?).
I have read many a guidebook and surfed many a website in preparation for tropical and tourist destinations over the years but never have I come accross something that was so informative and insightful. Cudos to the administrators and even moreso to the countless 'peeps' who have made this what it is today.
It may interest all of you to know that at least one top-rated guidebook gives a serious thumbs up to this site as being one of the best for any and all information about PDC. I now that our trip will be that much better, more fulfilling and more enjoyable as a result.

There are two of us that have joined, myself and my mother who has seen the beautiful Playa del Carmen area. Introduced to her by her good friend, Susie Q. When I seen the pictures, I knew why she fell in love with it immediately. I hope she will be able to return someday and know she would love to make it her winter home. Thanks for the welcome Babaloo. Yea Susie is a cool person and full o fun. I know her and my mother had a good itme when she was there. She was looked pretty seriously of moving there, at least for the winter months. I am anxious to see it someday. We usually go to Cancun when we visit ad absolutely love it!

Hi, everyone! I just joined the Forum because I have booked a trip to Playa del Carmen in September 2007 with my brother and his wife, and I am really excited about it. I have never been to Playa del Carmen before so I don't really know what to expect. I guess I'm suppose to post some info about myself so here it is. I'm from Houston, Texas and I am a legal assistant\office administrator at a law firm downtown. I have a horse in Austin that I ride about every two weeks. Really enjoy that. I'm a widow, my husband passed away in August of 2006. Trying to get my life back together again.

Good for you! We were newbies last year and now we can't wait to get back! I am sure you will have a brilliant holiday...it's a beautiful and fun place to be! and I'll bet you will want to go back again...just like us!! so hope you do have a great time!
