Apassionato Closed ?
I read on another thread that the restaurant Apassionato (spelling ?) is closed.
Had the restaurant changed hands? This was my 'treat' restaurant until last year. We had always had excellent food and great service but last February the service was poor and the food mediocre at best. What happened?? Anybody know? |

Haven't confirmed from another source (other than just having seen it sit empty for over a year now, I mean!), but I have heard a report from a peep (who shall remain unnamed unless s/he wishes to indentify him/herself) to the effect that the son of owner of El Faro commented that that property has been sold and will all -- except for the lighthouse (rest easy, Mapchick!
) -- be torn down soon. Steve |

Im looking forward to that!

Couple more shots of new stuff for ya...
![]() The new Alltournative office on the highway, near the glorieta by Sam's, Hospiten & Centro Maya, looks to be well on the way to finished when viewing it from the outside, at least... ![]() And this new bust of Mexican hero Benito Juarez has just been put into place at the intersection of Juarez Ave & the highway, to be seen by all those turning in to head toward the beach. ![]() Shot of it in its setting. And welcome back, by the way. Hope the return trip with youngster in tow was blissfully uneventful. Nothing like trans-Atlantic crossings with a young child. Unless perhaps it's a trans-Pacific crossing with a young child (about which, believe me, I know)... And now, here's another for ya, for another recent opening: Petit Marrakesh (spelling not guaranteed!), a little place that opened up a couple of weeks ago on Calle Corazón, immediately next to Spa Itza (the entrance of which can oh so vaguely be seen immediately to the left, in the photo below). Delmy & I and a couple who from Mérida who are friends of ours ended up here one night recently, in no small part because of the sort of infectious enthusiasm of the proprietor, a man from Morocco who speaks at French, Spanish & English in addition to whatever he may have grown up speaking there. He is really a treat to talk to and to have as a host, very warm and interactive, and is obviously trying hard to make sure people are happy. One example is the portions, which (especially in light of the fact that this is a combination of Moroccan and French cuisine) are impressive. Lots of unusual flavors in use, as well. If you want to see what I mean, try evening something relatively simple like the vegetarian couscous. We've already been back and I couldn't make my way through an entire order even when I'd skipped lunch that day. Anyway as I told him, we were very happy and I would stop by to take a shot and mention the opening on this forum thread. Sorry it's only during the morning, before they open (later they set up several tables outside, though they also have several inside), but I finally resolved to take this shot after failing for several days to get one during the evening (which anyway would probably have come out just as craptacular but dark as well ).Here you go... We met the gregarious owner of Petit Marrakesh too but had already eaten, so we'll be going another day.
The menu looks excellent and he's also got some very exotic large parasols over the outside tables now. Pick up one of his cards to get 10% off too. |

Well nothing that I can find on the flier for the upcoming El Faro Bazaar to Benefit Angel Notion spells it out explicitly, but it would certainly seem to corroborate the above noted story about El Faro finally having changed hands and bigger changes perhaps on the way. The flier says they're selling sheets, towels, pillows, mattresses, mirrors, lamps, chairs, beach chairs, tables, windows, doors, toilets, shower heads, laundry equipment -- even a pizza oven. Sounds like literally everything but the kitchen sink.
And on a different point, I learned from big posters there when driving by recently that the construction at the site of the former parking lot sandwiched between Plaza Antigua and the airstrip, near the in-town entrance to Playacar, is actually going to be condos. I had assumed it would be shops and office space, given the location. Seems to me like an odd place for condos, but what do I know... Finally, don't have a shot of it, but the first (of more?) pedestrian walkway over the highway looks to be near completion. This is well north and you'll see it now going in or out of town without any trouble. Steve |

[quote=Heather]When he heard me coughing pretty badly (remnants of my bronchitis), he said that what I needed immediately was a hot tea with honey, and strong arms to hold my body. Don't know if he was offering or what, but he seemed very outgoing and personable.
That's one of the most romantic pick-up lines I've heard in a long time. |
