Babes II is already closed. The original Babe's on Calle 10 between 5th and 10th is still open.

Phew! Thanks for letting me know. I thought they were being sold as a package deal.

Do you need anything from the states? We will be there in 15 days. Just let me know.

Why would someone pay that kind of money for Babes and reopen it as a breakfast joint? And not Babes.
That makes no sense to me.
But that's nothing new

It sure does not seem to make good business sense to me either. A great well known restaurant with great location, and all the recipes and cook comes with it, and they don't take advantage....unless perhaps since it was not a package deal in the end, that deal with the recipes and cook did not come with it after all?

They only bought the equipment and assumed the lease for for Babes II. They did not buy Babes I which comes with the brand, the concept, the marketing materials and the all important recipes. Per and Lena will keep all of that until they sell Babes I. That was the original plan although if Babes I had sold first, Babes II would have come as part of the package. Their pockets would need to be much deeper for that and it's not what they wanted to do anyway.

Makes sense, then, thanks Michele.

And I will wish them good luck with their breakfast place (unlike Al, the old curmudgeon ).

One of our favourite places to breakfast in Zihuatanejo was La Casa Cafe, a little place that was only open from 7 AM or so until about 2 and only served breakfasts and a limited lunch menu, and the BEST coffee in town. I always thought it would a lot less work to only be open until 2 daily.....still way too much work for me!

Don't get me wrong............I wish them well also. In fact, I will try to eat there opening day and if it is good I will eat there again.
Was making myself an omelette at 4:30 am. as I wake up early.

I was really only kidding with you....I love your curmudgeonly posts...they make me laugh! I am a bit of a cynic, er, I mean, realist myself about the service industry.

Big time BUMMER. I've always liked dropping in while staying in Hotels on the North side of Playa. It will be missed...

What is needed is the President to send in federal agents to take control over and supervise the local and state police and clear out the people on the street. I mean lets be real more Mayan Women are hassled off the streets and beaches and their merchandise confiscated than drug dealers. Who are the real criminals?
This makes me so sad. The corruption in this country is just mind boggling.

I think you should take that with a grain of salt. At the same time many restaurants in Playa were doing very well, some (e.g. Como Como) to the point of being very hard to book.
