OMG, I just spent 20 minutes reading up on making perfect prime rib from aged beef. I'm going to take a child's aspirin just for thinking about it.

Sorry I missed this...

Great motto.

OK, I have finally combined remembering these 2 things with being at the computer with having a moment to think and type them in, so in keeping with the original intent of the thread:

1. What's going in there in the smallish lot bounded by La Tortuga, 14th street and Calle Corazón? I've walked by that I don't know how many times before and kept thinking I'd ask, because I have no idea. Finally, I'm asking.

2. A recent Playa addition that may lead to interesting results is the stop sign recently placed at the southeast corner of the roundabout at the intersection of 10th Ave and Constituyentes, applyig to those travelling north on 10th. The interesting part is that from the beginning, many people seemed to just assume (incorrectly) that northbound traffic there had a stop sign, like everyone else at that intersection, similar to waht happens at most traffic circles here.

As you can imagine, some swerving and expressive exchanges took place from time to time as eastbound traffic on Constituyents failed to really stop at their stop sign -- that is to say, they observed it about as much as anyone observes a stop sign at a traffic circle here -- but northbound traffic on 5th also failed to stop, inasmuch as there wasn't any stop sign there. (Or in the interminably illogical world of Mexican driving, some northbound cars would actually stop, though not required to, thereby resulting in swerving and expressive exchanges with those behind them on 10th who knew better than to stop, rather than those on Constituyentes failing to stop as they should.)

Fittingly, no special announcement of this change, piling confusion upon confusion, is in evidence. And to make matters even worse, the new stop sign looks like it might even be fake, as it's a bit smaller and does not use the same typeface as other stop signs do.

Welcome to Mexico.

C'mon, nobody knows what that is next to La Tortuga?

Anyway, just to add that as someone recently pointed out over on the general forum (here), Tacos Israel at the corner of 15th Ave and 10th street (perhaps memorable for it's use of Jughead in its signage) closed not so long ago.

I was of the understanding that "Gringo" was a term for foreigners, not just Americans. This is incorrect..?

As far as I know, gringo is properly applied only to Americans or perhaps only to Americans and Canadians, but not to other foreigners.

I was told by two Mexican gents that lived next door to us in Playa that Gringo was specific to Americans...that we weren't gringos.
