hi!..6 months in Playa..learn Spanish, dive, chillax

I’m glad I came across this awesome site full o info today.. I’m moving to Playa from July 6th to December 25th '06 and I plan on learning Spanish at a school called "Solexico" ...recommended by a friend I met last time I was in Playa. Any reviews on this school?? I want to completely immerse myself in the Spanish language and try to avoid English.. Any recommendations on living accommodations?? thanks!!

Staff member Heather went to Solexico and wrote an article on learning Spanish here (in Playa) called Learning Spanish in Paradise. If you check around under the 'read more' tab you'll find plenty more to, um, read.

You can search around with the search function for apartments, accommodations, etc. and come back to the forum with follow-up questions.

Welcome to www.Playa.info!

Congratulations on your move. I think you will really enjoy your experience at Solexico. They are very professional as are their course materials. How long will you be studying there? If you can, I highly recommend staying with a host family which can be arranged through the school itself. It is very difficult to avoid English here in Playa. Staying with a host family will help you use the Spanish you are learning everyday. Other than that, how much English/Spanish you use is up to you. I know people who have lived here for years and don't know more than 5 words in Spanish. The onus is on you to use what you learn. Good luck. You are going to love it here.

Lucky you! I was there for three months a while ago and i definetely would have wanted to stay for 6 months!! I studied spanish at IH Riviera Maya and they're great!! I recommend that you stay with a family for a few weeks.. or just make friends that can't really speak english to you, then you HAVE to speak your spanish..
Well.. buena suerte!!
