Can ya Freeze Baked Beans??

No, it's not the title to a joke. It's me with yet another kinda-cooking-related question.

I brought a huge amount of baked beans to the cookout yesterday, but since people were more interested in David's ribs than my beans (can ya believe that??!! ), I came home with a LOT. I'd added a lot of molasses to 'em like my mother used to do, and they are really good, so I don't wanta toss 'em. And I think my co-workers will appreciate it if I do NOT eat a plate o' beans every night during the upcoming week.

So... can I freeze 'em?? Or will they turn into horrible mush when I thaw them out later?

Yes, you can freeze them, but freeze them in freezer bags instead of containers. That way you can get most of the air out, which will make a difference. Even so, I'd use them as soon as possible. I love baked beans...I miss my Mom's.

Someone from your area asking a question about beans? Yes, you can freeze them for 4 to 6 months. Use freezer bags and lay flat.

Blondeandblue: Thanks!! I always use the Ziploc freezer bags whenever possible. Not only do they seal out the air, but they also take up a heckuva lot less room. I use them when I make my spaghetti sauce and freeze up about 15-20 2-serving bags.

Mikey: Didn't know if you Texas types would even know what a baked bean was!!

emc: Ya think because I was born and bred here that I know anything about cookin' and freezin' this stuff?? HA!!! It's me! Nerak!! The one with the crew of monkeys and the Easy-Bake Oven! Hell, the monkeys know more about cooking that I do!!

P.S. to emc: Ya know... I always think of Einstein when I see your forum name.
