Hi all! I have been a lurker for quite some time. Hubby and I were down to Playa last July and LOVED it! We are scheduled to return on July 10th of this year so not too long away!!! Yea!!!

Welcome Spunky from Philly!

I'm practically a Philly native.

I grew up in Del., but grandparents were from South Philly.
My grandmother ran a drugstore at 17th & Ritner.
As a kid I delivered prescriptions in the neighborhood.
With the dimes and quarters I got for tips I could see the Phils for 50 cents (that was the 1970s).
Of course the center field upper deck was half-way to Camden.

Went to St. Joe's (the College, not the Prep).

I now live in Jersey, in the shadows of NYC - but I still watch the Philly channels.

Mind if I ask where in Delaware? I'm a 14 year transplant here. Lived in the city for awhile (Browntown) now in the northern burbs, off Shipley.

Mother in Law lives at 18th and Ritnore right now. Gotta love Caccia's bakery!!!Also the best hoagies are Primo's!!

I confess, I've looked at your avatar and home location many times and wondered if we ever crossed paths.

But I lived in Delaware from 1962 to 1981, missing you by a decade +.

But we were close. . . .Northern burbs of Wilmington. . . .I lived in Welshire off Shipley Rd. & Baynard Blvd. Immaculate Heart of Mary parish if you're RC.

My sister still lives near there. Off Washington St. Extension. I don't know the name of the development. I think it's called Poet's Corners. Lots of beautiful old stone houses on streets named Emerson, Tennyson, Milton, etc.

My parents moved from New Castle down to Lewes in sLower Delaware several years ago.

WOW, it's amazing how many small world hits I got with just a little backstory!

My grandmother had "Gallaghers Pharmacy" at 17th & Ritner across from St. Monica's (where my parents were married). My grandparents house was at 19th & Shunk. I crossed 18th & Ritner about 500 times as a kid on the other side of St. Mons. delivering Rxs.

There was another Gallaghers at 17th & Shunk owned by my uncle Joe.

Although I was a suburban kid, I loved spending lots of time in south Philly. I felt a link to a much older time. Horses still pulled carts in the 60s and 70s. Abbot's dairy, complete with the milk cow herd, was still on South Street. Butcher shops still had live chickens awaiting your selection. The Italian Market on 9th St wouldn't be revealed in Rocky for another 15 years. Frank's black cherry visniak was the best soda.

I saw over 50 Phillies games the year the Vet opened. . . .and spent less than $25 in total admission tix - bat, ball and cap day included.

Gotta love Philly!

I'm '86, brother was '89, Dad was '59. I lived in LaFarge, then Barry, then off-campus at Bryn Mawr & Wynnfield.

Originally from Brooklyn, NY but family moved to Phila area when I was in 4th grade, so I grew up mostly in Abington-Jenkintown area (Montgomery County). After SJU, went to the Midwest for grad school (at Indiana U. in Bob Knight's glory days). Then wound up here in DC.

My Dad was from Wilmington (38th Street, Christ Our King, Salesianum).

Good to see the Delaware Valley represented in PDC!!

I'm a Salesianum guy too! Now living in East Brunswick, NJ (Exit 9).

Your Dad's neighborhood is pretty close to my sister's current place (see Poet's Corner reference above). My sis went to Padua, then Drexel '90.
