As an example, I took the squeaky wheel (StewartG) and did an update to existing posts by user so now all of his old posts show his user info correctly. After I re-index the dB tables (I will do this after I have restored most of the accounts, since it takes a while to do), his post count will be restored.
edit: I just restored his PMs too. (I think)
