What a TRAGEDY!

Did anyone hear about this?
My daughter told me about this today, so I just googled it to find the story.
It is so sad. My daughter was in a terrible accident last July, hit head on by a drunk driver, who was killed. My daughter is still recovering.

The coroner has some explaining to do.
From what I read - he hasn't exactly given a very good explanation as to WHY the identification process wasn't more thoroughly explored.

I can't imagine what both families are going through. I hope they find out what they need to know about how this mistake happened.

Several people in the accident had (miss)identified the girls. A family member for the deceased came down to identify the body but the coroner advised against her viewing the body because of the condition of the body. They had (wrongly) already identified the body.

I agree. On the other side, though, a very joyous occasion for the family who already buried their daughter who is now still alive, and out of a coma.

I can't believe in this day and age(technology being what is is)that something like this could happen. So sad for all involved! Imagine thinking your daughter was alive, only to find out you've been keeping vigil at someone else's child's bedside. Or that the daughter you thought had been buried, was alive and you weren't there to help her thru her injuries Shocking!!

Sounds to me like if there's any good news here, it's that this part was not the other way around (as you sometimes hear happens):

I read that the body WAS identified by a family member! Having lost a 16 year old son in a terrible accident, I cannot imagine how horrible it is for BOTH families! And, actually my son was misidentified at the time of the accident, and had already passed away before his true identity was discovered. This is a true tragedy for all involved!

I read about something similar today. It happened in Austria with two 18 year old boys. Both boys had been identified by family, one was dead, the other one in coma. When the one in coma woke up yesterday he spoke croatian language which was the nationality of the boy they had identified as dead.... strange that things like that seem to happen more often than we can imagine....

I can't even imagine the sadness and shock of both sets of parents and family. This would be so hard. So sad.

Wow, that is really strange.
what I can't understand is how they didn't realize it was not their daughter they looking after for five weeks. Her injuries must have been severe, but you would still think that they would have been able to tell.

Bandages, lots of bandages, from what I read.

I cannot even begin to comprehend losing a child or the sheer powe and, I suppose, seeming relentlessness of the grief that must hit after that. It sounds too cliché but my heart absolutely goes out to anyone who has had such an experience.

Steve, believe me, there is NOTHING worse, and it never goes away. In two weeks, it will have been 16 years since I lost my beautiful 16 year old son (16 yrs and 1 month to the day), and the pain is still enormous.
