I know there are many of us peeps with pooches....The question is whether or not he/she likes the mailman? I am a letter carrier for Canada Post and I know that most dogs hate the Mailman/Woman.... On the other hand there are many dogs out there who loves us as well.....
Yesterday, while I was approaching a house to make a delivery, the owner stepped outside his door and "Snoopy" managed to scoot right past him and charge at me..... I ended up shoving the mail in his mouth to prevent him from biting me and of course he put holes right through the card with his teeth.... and yes I've been bitten in the past... Anyways, I was just wondering if any of you peeps have had a situation and how you handled it? We carry a "repellent" to use if necessary but thank-god never had to use it.... |

Seriously though, it can be a very scary situation for us and I just wanted to remind you peeps that school will be out in 2 weeks....which means the kids are home, outside playing and sometimes forget to close the door behind them.....

Our mail carrier drives mail box to mail box... no walking... and our dogs (mostly the one leads the charge) bark hysterically at him/her just being parked at the mail box for 6 seconds... they're not biters, but if they charged and barked you might think they were....

I have a guy on my walk that I deliver to and his dog is always sitting on the front lawn "off leash" while he putters in his garage....
The dog justs sits there and lears at me.... I have to actually yell at the guy to come and get his mail because the dog is just waiting to take a chunk out of me....Of course today with his owner standing there he was as sweet as pie and I actually fed him a biscuit..... I don't trust that dog.....he has "evil eyes" .... |

Well I have two dogs. One is half black shepard and half wolf, the other is boarder collie/springer spaniel cross.
The collie barks alot; I think it has something to do with the mail bag, but she barks anyways so I donīt think she would ever hurt anyone. On the other hand the black shepard/wolf is extremely protective of my family. Our yard has a 6 foot hight deer fence all the way around and a huge sign at the entrance that says please call (phone number) before entering property...that way we can put him in the house. I have brought friends over and as long as I am with them he is fine, but if you arrived unannounced and he didnīt know you, then you might be in big trouble. Also if anyone in my family screamed he would attack. |

That's Buster... the barker who leads the charge... problem with him is his eyes aren't great... as a matter of fact, we got Snickers' groomed today and they took a bunch of fur off... so when I let Buster and Freckles into the room, Buster charged Snickers and started fighting with him because he didn't recognize him. I'm screaming "Stop, stop" and trying to break them up--had to drag one by the tail and then pick him up by the back hair. When Buster realized who Snickers was, he was like "oh." So I'm sure he thinks the truck stopping at the mailbox is some giant killer dinosaur. |
