Casa Picon/Willow, Rented from the Murphy's ? Please Post !
Rented from the Murphy's ? Please Post !
First of all, I respectfully ask that this thread doesn't get side tracked and the moderators help this be so. My wife and I are return renters of Casa Picon. We first rented for two weeks in 2003 from Michael and Meghan Murphy. The whole experience of this first time renting Casa Picon was great. We received back our security deposit as per the contract and looked forward to doing it again for our 28th anniversary. Our second attempt to rent Casa Picon unfortunately was in December, last year and the year of hurricane Wilma. We were to arrive on the third Saturday of November. Well, you all know the story. We heard from Michael and Meghan that the villa could not accept guests until well after the new year. We were very disappointed to say the least, but understood that the Murphy's were dealing with a lot worse situation than we. So, we wished them the best and said we would like to re-schedule for December 2006, a year later. Everything went well through this re-schedule and Meghan followed up with a confirmation for us to have Casa Picon from December 2nd to the 16th. Great, we went on with life looking forward to this coming December and spending another two weeks on Secret Beach. Now it is June 17th and we have been trying every angle we know for over a month to contact the Murphy's. For reasons unknown to us, they just plain will not respond. I am aware of several other folks that have either been and the villa was not ready for guests, not been and trying to re-schedule, been and waiting far too long for security deposits to be returned per written & signed contracts. Or like in our case, are scheduled to go the first week in December of this year with all monies paid. We just want to receive what we paid for, and by the way, almost $5,000 USD is a lot of money to us. We had saved like crazy to do this for our 28th anniversary. To this point in time, Michael & Meghan Murphy have not done us any wrong, but we don't understand why they will not reply to us and let us know our rental is secure for our dates per the agreement and contract. Including, the refund of our security deposit per the contract. Michael, Meghan, as you read this, it should be very straight forward as to what the right thing to do is; Drop us an e-mail, give us a phone call, let us know the situation on our rental. Give us an update on the villa as we have asked, it only takes a moment of your time. As I stated, the Murphy's have not wronged us as of yet, but I have to say, based on several people that I am aware of, that have been wronged, I am VERY concerned. And, I hope and pray that come December we get what we paid for and that I don't have to take the potential situation to an ugly place. Best of luck to you.
Hope it works out. Having had a successful rental directly through them in the past I'm sure helped ease any misgivings about booking directly in the future. However, using a go-between, if you will, places all of what you are going through on thier shoulders as your advocate with the villa owners. This Playa.Info site is THE place to book your future villa/condo rentals as they have access to MUCH more property-wise than has been updated on the list in the Trip Planning Tab and the Villas section. |

I hope everything works out for you. I too, would be aggravated at not getting an email response/assurance.
From what was posted here, the villa it's self was nearly ready to rent, but the pool was under construction. Workers weree onsite (living there apparently) and working long hours. So can it be completed before November?, it would seem likely. I don't really have any help for you other than to say that when we stayed at Playa Secreto (pre-hurricane), casa picon and the neighboring units all looked really nice, and one of the nicest stretchs of beach I've ever been on. Has Anyone heard from Michael and or Meghan Murphy ? There has to be some good folks that read this forum that personally know the Murphy's. How about talking to them and encouraging them to step up and do the right and ethical thing here. You will probably sleep better too ! People are still posting on Trip Advisor, three pages worth as of today. Do a search under "Casa Picon". I can't believe the folks that are still coming forward with the same issues. I can tell you this, and I'm dead serious. If I loose what I have paid my hard earned money for, I will not stop going after justice, including talking to every local paper, news reporters etc. in their local area and ensure that every search on the internet leads to exposure and yes, I know how to do this !
Michael, Meghan, are you reading this ? I have told you in, I can't remember right now of exactely how many attempts in contacting you (but I do have every one of them filed away) that I will walk away and have no further connection with anything to do with this mess if you contact me, and that I still receive what I paid you for. I am not asking you for any money, I just plain and simple want what I paid for. Come on, what is up with this, do the right thing here. Garry |

You're not "missing" anything and you should be worried that you are not getting a reply from the people you rented from.
But you're expecting someone from THIS board to have an answer for you and that's obviously not the case. Not sure what you expect someone here to tell you. We're not the Murphy's, we don't know them, they don't post here, we don't represent their properties, etc. There was someone who had a bad time with the Murphy's and that thread is on the board - I would think you would have read it already too. Other than that, all I can say is that you are barking up the wrong tree if you think someone here has some kind of info that's going to solve your issues with the Murphy's. |

Shammy, thanks for the reply, and I understand what you are saying. I am really not looking for answers from the good people of this board, rather, I am hoping that I am reaching the Murphy's, or someone that knows them to spark some kind of action. I guess I am REALLY frustrated to say the least. If I have come accross like I expect something from the good folk that frequent here, then I whole hartedley appologize for that. (sorry if my spelling is off) I will refrain from further persual of this thread if that is the right thing to do.
Sincerely, Garry who just wants to sleep at night and look forward to what I have saved and dreamed about for the last several years. |

I think if we could do something for you, anything really, there are some really good folk here who would. If I could make a call or see these folks or do anything, sir, to relieve your anxiety I would. Hopefully in the grand scheme of things that by the time you are to occupy this place, problems with the property and communication will have long since been resolved... At least you have had a successful stay in the past with them and you do have a confirmed reservation and I assume some protocol as far as occupying the place once you arrive....contacts there, etc. Hopefully in the future you will use a professional resource, such as you can find here through Playa.Info where you have an advocate and a fallback if things should go awry. Now that there are at least a couple of threads on this property others may be able in the future to avoid a similar situation....or stumble on this and give you some insight. I hope the best for you. Good luck. |

Please see my posts on tripadvisor.com (search for "Casa Picon" - my screen name is "Dewitt5") regarding Casa Picon. Garry (Gaznmind) and I have already spoken, so I know his situation and he knows mine. In short, if you are out cash to the Murphys and are not getting any response, please either post here or email me directly at thomas [dot] whitehouse [at] ubs [dot] com. I am keeping track of a growing number of individuals who have thousands of dollars of rental fees and security deposits invested with the Murphys. I would like to continue collecting names/amounts/stories. I am aware that they had a tragedy in the family, and got backlogged on emails/calling back renters. However, I am wary of the situation and want to be prepared. Knowing who else is out there and having similar experiences helps me prepare for future action, should that be necessary. Thank you.

Any response yet?
GaznMind,
Have you heard from them yet? We haven't. If we were being dealt with honestly, why is there no communication? Talking is how we solve problems, right? If you like, see my post on traveladvisor.com. Good luck to you, I hope you get your vacation. fheo |

It would be curious to think that someone could operate in this manner and then be upset by the fact that people are concerned and voicing this concern publicly when they are in fact operating a public enterprise.
I hope things work out for you and I hope that all parties involved, either those who rent from these folks - and those who are accepting funds in order to rent out this property - come out of this as free from harm as possible. |

If I can help
Hello my name is Luis Picon, I happened to find this site and I am shocked to see what has been going on for the last few months with you guys. Let me try to help: Fact 1. as of last november 2005, I stoped giving Casa Picon to the Murphy´s for rentals. Fact 2. I instructed Michael Murphy to fully reinburse all payments since the restoration was going to take a very long time (I got paid by the insurance company just last month) therefore I collected no monies from him, in fact I left him with other monies from previous guests (not willingly, he does not answer my calls either), the only instances in which we received guests early this year (for free, on my part at least) were presented to me by Michael Murphy as “people that really wanted to come regardless of the state of things” and “advised as to the ongoing construction” for what ever it is worth, I am sorry. I hope this info serves your purposes, I am available for further assitance at luispicon26 hotmail. I hope now that they have resurfaced that everything is settled.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
