$40 Lobster in Playa

Hola! Just got back from Puerto Aventuras and took a quick trip to Playa del Carmen one night...and was very impressed! Only complaint was when we went to one restaurant they kind of misinformed us on the price of the lobster. Ended up paying $40 for one lobster... but... I have to say it was the best lobster I've ever had! Is $40 a good deal for one lobster down there?

James

Yes, if you are so rich that money doesn´t matter.

Just for comparison: a seafood place called El Cejas (not the cheapest one though) charges (Feb 2006):

mxp $240 per pound (half a kilo) of crayfish.
mxp $150 per kilo of whole fish.
mxp $400 for a two person platter of Seafood mixed Grill
mxp $180 per kilo of fish steak

i don't think so...

... right there in Puerto Aventuras, at Richard's Restaurant, we got steak and lobster for $100p and it was very good.

...fantastic bread, too.

The best lobster ever? Hmmm. I was going to skip it seeing as how I'm a northern kind of gal. But I don't think I'll pay $40 to try it.

I use to live in Boston years ago, but never tried the lobster up there... I'm in the midwest now, so you can imagine what the lobster tastes like here.

I will be having lobster in Prince Edward Island in about a week and a half and it will cost about 35$ CDN and it includes all you can eat seafood chowder, mussels, homemade rolls, and dessert. That is a deal. You would not catch me paying 40$US for Caribbean lobster!!

We ended up at Gringo Dave's and had steak and lobster for around that! It was good too. Don't think i would pay $40 for just one. But you never know. It's good to have a good lobster fix!

Yeah-what sctx said. There's always some mega-size tails on display-I'd think if you got one of those big ones you might be paying that much or more. But we got a typical-sized one and didn't pay nearly that.

Tom, I think you may be a bit too nice to get Scotts joke...

He really likes his tail though - the bigger the better, right Scott???

This lobster place wouldn't have happened to have been on fifth ave would it? With a guy out front waving a menu trying to sell you on the place like it was a timeshare?
