Riu Yucatan Pool

Just wondering what the deal is with the pool pics. at RY. Expedia shows a great looking pool, most other sites show a marginal motel type pool (even dated looking).
This will be our first trip to Playa and I am doing a lot of research. Mostly getting confused.
My husband is a 43 yr. old dancing fool so we do not want to be too far from town due to the nightlife. The AI's are appealing just so we do not spend all of time trying to figure out where it is safe to eat. However, we do want to take in a little local culture. We want a great beach and a fun crowd. (Two big Riu's fun or stuffy?)
The Shangri La looks great but there is no way my sports fan husband can go without a TV in room (topless wife or not).
Does anyone have any suggestions for a 20 yr. married couple who still likes to have a good time?
Please help - want to book something soon.

Try the Royal Porto Real. I think it will work great for you.

You are too funny! I'm on my way to the Riu Yucatan tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the hotel pool is pretty decent. I've seen some photos of the pool on another website where users can post their candid photos and the pool looked nice. I'll be sure to take some pics and post when I get back.

I just got back yesterday from a week of heaven at the Rui Yucatan.
The pool is in two huge meandering sections. Each section has a built in pool bar. One section has a sun waterbathers section where you can stretch out on your back in the pool (like a crocodile would do). The entire pool area is surrounded by sunloungers under cabanas. There are two more bars on dry land adjacent to each pool. Overall the pool area is very modern and absolutely gorgeous, as is the entire resort.
I will also say the pool area can get crowded. Not in the pool itself but on the loungers. But you've also got loungers lined up under palm trees on the beach as well as in front of the palm trees on the beach.
Nightlife: all of the Riu resorts have nightly entertainment. If you like to party I will say that it appears the Yucatan is designed to be the most party hardy of the Riu resorts. You're a $5 cab ride from 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen. There are lots of bars/restaurants of all kinds, but we never took the time to explore them. Overall the entire area appears to be exploding with growth.
I'm ready to go back right now!

We were at the Yucatan last week. They've done a great job of renovating the pool area just this past spring. It is definitely not a motel like pool although those pictures may have been taken before the renovation.

My wife and I were there two years ago before the renovations. Even with the smallish pools we still had a great time!!! So now with the newer pool set-up Im sure you will be fine.
