Liking or not liking A.I.'s
There are many reasons for liking or not liking all inclusives, I have been both ways and I prefer AI's in that everything you need is laid out for you and you don't have to worry about where to eat or drink or what beach to lay on. It is just as easy to buy your air tickets and get a hotel room or condo over the internet. If you go AI then you can still eat or drink at restaurants or bars in a nearby town. You tend to eat and drink more at AI's. People who don't like AI's will find reasons for not liking them and vice versa I say try both ways a couple times before coming to a conclusion on what way is better for you.

that's part of the fun - for me. Diversity. A greater sense of freedom. But i don't need to try AI's a couple of times to know. ...i think it's fine that you like them. To each his own. |

I can't say I don't like AI's, but I really do not prefer them . I have had nothing but good experiences at them, but that was in Cuba and the Dominicanand we didn't have much choice. I have never stayed at one in Mexico because we prefer to find our own trouble.

good way of putting it Brent. I always think it is funny; I would never dream of staying in an 'all inclusive' hotel anywhere else in the world, why do it in Mexico? Although we HAVE stayed in AIs a couple of times on past trips, we swore after the last time, never again. But our friends who we are going with in February are pretty insistent that is what they want to do. Their reasons being 'they want to relax and not have to worry about handling money and going a long way away to eat'. They have, obviously, never been to Mexico before, and just don't know how fun and easy it is to stay non-AI.On our next trip in early August, to Sayulita, we are staying in a villa, here http://www.vrbo.com/27235 and I am thinking this might be our new favourite type of vacation. ![]() |

...oh help me now. I'm totally bummed. So, now I'm renting a car so I can get back and forth. I have to keep thinking...at least I'll be in Mexico and closer to the beach than 3 1/2 hours away. I can do a 15 min. drive. There's nothing wrong with the AI experience and people change their preferences sometimes but not always. |

With the numbers of tourists seemingly on the increase that are headed to the Yucatan, I'm glad lots of folks like AI's.
Seems whenever I'm talking to someone that's headed to Mexico, most of the time (probably more like 75% of the time) they are doing AI. My own personal attitude about AI can be summed up best with this scenario. If I won a trip to an all-inclusive, I would use the airfare, but not show up at the room and then pay my own way to stay at one of the fine hotels/condos in Playa. |

Loving the all inclusive way !
Hello. My family and i rented a house in Akumal last winter.( god was that a lot of work) shopping, cleaning, counting money, ect...I just prefer all inclusive because when i am on vaca. i just want to lay back and enjoy myself. I love the fact that you can help yourself to the buffet and on going grills throughtout the day. There are so many types of all inclusives to try throughout the world. I just like to pay one fee for airfare, hotel and food and drink and bring some tip/spending money for fun shopping !!
Just my opionion. |

Last July was our first trip back to Mexico since the 80's
and it was the first time we ever did an AI. We stayed at Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach (non-AI) in Cancun, ABR in Akumal, and Riu Palace Mexico in Playacar. Loved FAGCB and the Riu, loved Akumal, but not ABR. Went back in August and stayed at Playa Maya and ate at the great restaurants in Playa and REALLY loved that! This year, we're renting a condo in Playa, then a villa in Akumal, so both will be new experiences for us (at least in Mexico).SOOOO.....I guess I'm saying that I like variety, but am very partial to restaurants in Mexico, so would choose a hotel or condo over an AI usually. Oh, and I don't plan on cooking, either! We just wanted the condo for the space and the extra bathroom (have a 17 yr. old daughter--nuff said! Last edited by summer05 : 07-04-2006 at 11:08 PM. |
