OMG!! Please we need help deciding type room @ the Playa Maya
Perhaps its all the lurking I do around here. Reading everyones great trip reports looking at their fabulous pictures. Getting so many great ideas for things to do, places to go, and where to eat. And of course where to stay. We finally narrowed it down to the Playa Maya for 2 weeks in January. I have overloaded my senses and can't decide what room type. Have looked (online, many times
) at the different rooms they all look great! We would like to do our deposit this week and still haven't decided what room we really want. The only thing we really want is a king bed. So my question to all of you oh so very knowledgable people that would know or have stayed at the Playa Maya. What is your favorite room type,#, floor, & why? Thank you! |

I have enjoyed all of the room types. They have different qualities. However I would offer a few words of caution. The perfect room for another couple may not necessarily be the perfect room for you two. You may want to post the room type that you think you will like and the reasons why do you think you will enjoy it. And that way you can get a confirmation of whether your expectations match other guest’s experiences.

You are right! We Definately want a king bed, a nice balcony or patio somewhat private, a view now optional. I heard that the 3rd floor could get tiring going up and down stairs. Is the 3rd floor rooms the only rooms with an ocean view?
BTW everyone, sorry about the word reverse in my title obviously "room type" is what we are looking for. |

We were just there and we had a second floor room with a balcony. Someone who was on the third floor while we were there also complained about the steps going up being a concern. We had a great ocean view, but we had a room with 2 double beds. It actually was no big deal for us and we did spend lots of time on our balcony.

It depends on what you considere inconvenience, if you stay at 3rd floor, you get a great view, but if you want to go up and down all day long it would be tiring. If you only go down a couple times per day, then no big deal. Also depends on how many hours are you going to stay at your balcony/window soaking the sun or enjoying the view of Cozumel.
One vacation long time ago I had the choice between walking a loooong distance to my room (last one on a small hill) or staying near the restaurant/pool/entertainment area, I choosed to go all the way to the top as they assured me a great view, I got excellent pictures of the sunset not possible to obtain any other place in the resort. For me it was completely worth it as I got the view and just went to my room a couple of times per day. If you are the type of people that goes to the room for any reason (take a nap, put some creame, change outfit every now and then, etc) then you have a reason to ponder an extra floor or not. Also if your knees are not what they used to be you may want a lower room. I wouldn´t hesitate between your floor options, you will be in Playa, enjoying the beach most of the time, or on an excursion or shopping/stuffing to face in town. |

I am sure you will win out in the end with a great room, I don't think you can go wrong with the Playa Maya. Have a great time, and be sure to post a trip report! |

I'm typing this from room #201.
![]() Anyway, I think that the view from this room is just fine. We would have preferred the 3rd floor, but that didn't work out. We stayed in the exact same room last year, and we took a bunch of pictures which you can see here. This room has a king bed, btw. |

Just book a room!! We did recently for February and the choices were aleady getting slim. There is little difference between the 2 types of balconys so don't fret (we've had each, not sure if a little more size in the front ones is worth the price difference). Just book it, yesterday, before you end up in the Jacuzzi suite w/ no view whatsoever!

Have never stayed at the Playa Maya, but I did get a tour of a few of their rooms by some guests, and you're right.... they're all beautiful.
I'd get one with the king-sized bed (which seems to be your priority) for the cheapest rate possible. My attitude is you don't spend that much time hanging in your room gazing out at the view, so why not use the $$ you'll save by being out there ON the beach using that extra $$ on food and drink instead!! One of the places David and I are going to check out in a couple of weeks with a view toward booking it for Peepstock 2007 has a $70/night difference in rates between a garden view ($90) and ocean view room ($160). That $70/day x 12 days = $840 which we'd much rather spend on the sunnin' and funnin' and eatin' and drinkin' around Playa rather than getting $70/day worth of "view" from our room. ![]() |

Have you checked to see what types of rooms are available? That might narrow down the question for you. Their site has an 'availability' chart for the different types of rooms. We're there in Dec and I told Steve the view was the priority...I'm confident he's used to that request. Go and enjoy!!!!!!
