What's the scoop on the local wedding scene?

Hey folks,

I introduced myself last night- I'm planning a wedding for Playa next July 2007. I've received info from all the mega-all-inclusives, and the smaller hotels/resorts- La Tortuga, Shangri-La, Al Cielo, ******, Mamita's (too numerous to list). My goodness- everything is beautiful and some more affordable than others- I've also chatted with the folks at Ajua Weddings and Weddings in Playa, great folks too. My fiance and I are torn- who to choose? where to book?

If you've got anything to share about the local wedding scene, I'd be happy to know. I'm trying to come down for a "recon" visit ASAP. I just have to see this place soon!!

Don't know much about the wedding scene, but Playa is a great place to take your girlfriend after a divorce.

Gee, now that there's some helpful info for someone looking to get married!

Hunnylocs, you might want to do a search on getting married in Playa or weddings in general. Quite a bit of info on the board from folks that have been there, done that.

It really depends on what type of wedding you want, how many guests you are planning on, are your guests the type that would want to stay at a larger AI or a smaller hotel. And of course there's the matter of the pesky budget

I would recommend going with a single point-of-contact, whether it's a wedding coordinator you hire to make arrangements or an AI's one-stop shop. In addition to the folks you already mentioned, I'll put in a plug for Raquel at weddingsinplayadelcarmen com. She did a great job for us and was very accomodating.

And you're right, it's a beautfiul locale for a wedding, no matter what.

I´m going to shamelessly plug my good friend Maria at Weddings in Playa. She is professional and a perfectionist and she knows EVERYONE.

Thank you Michele, I've already received a price list from Erica and Maria, everything looks really good. I guess where my indecisions lie- is who to choose? Everyone has a beautiful website, all of them say, "we can make your dreams come true" yadda, yadda, yadda. However, I'm sure some of these coordinators are better than others. I'm finding that some of the coordinators don't want to share more than prices with me until I give them a "retainer". But if I give them a "retainer" and I don't like their vendors- photographer, catering, etc- I'm stuck with them. I would be nice if folks would just be upfront. So far, the folks at the ****** are the most accommodating. I've read great things about the party atmosphere and decor of the BP. Right now, we're leaning towards that, we're bringing 100 folks down, next July- we want to have a blast, but of course chic and cheap too.

Denicems, thank you for the referral- I'll check out Raquel's website, I learned of 2 more coordinators today from the boards. I thought I had found them all on google, guess not. We just want a coordinator that wants to be helpful, and will share details, and help us to envision what will happen as we plan from the west coast. I think some of the coordinators take it for granted that we're familiar to Playa.

PS- I appreciate the shameless plugs- "word of mouth" always tells more about a business, no matter how cool the website might be. I would love to learn more about the "local favorites" for wedding coordinators.

We will add wedding information to Playa.info in a couple of weeks (as soon as we're back from our vacation in Sweden). We recommend Natalia Schweitzer of Weddings on the Beach. Natalia has been a good friend of ours for many years and she's a beautiful and real person. She's been doing weddings in Playa for a long time.

i was married in playa last year and did everything a la carte and opted against an all-inclusive wedding. i posted a wedding trip report, do a search under "heater's wedding trip report". maybe reading it will help you to decide which type of wedding you would like. feel free to ask me any questions. if you pm me with you email address i can send you the link to our photos on snapfish. claudia rodriguez was our photographer and videographer and she and her husband were amazing.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

I'm getting married in Playa in October, and we are using Erica from weddings in playa....she's been very professional so far, answered all my questions, hasn't required any retainer fee, says I can pay when we get to Mexico. I"m also using Claudia Rodriguez for our photographer...highly recommended on this site. Again, very professional, only requires a small deposit for holding your date, very willing to work with anything I've talked to her about so far. I'll try to figure this posting a picture in a thread thing sometime before October, and I'll get a trip report out when we get back. Hope this helps!

Pardon my ignorance but is that Erica from Yaxche, who (also) does weddings, or is the name just a coincidence?

Yes it is.
Hunnylocs-
I used Weddings in Playa (Erica from Yaxche and Maria from Cafe Press) and can happily refer these two awesome women. Post or PM me for any specifics. I took a lot of info from this board and would be more than happy to return the favor.
