First time to Mexico....

We are booked December 2006 into the Iberostar del Mar. I am really looking forward to this holiday. Anything that we shouldn't miss on this first trip to the area? Anything we should know about the resort?

Just depends...

In 2007 we are headed to the Lindo. I was new to this forum on our first trip to Mexico in 2005 and found it to be really helpful. We had planned to go see the Grand Canyon after two vacations to Playa but my husband really wanted to return for our third year.
If you are the adventuresome type we went on a day trip with alltournative tours on their "Mayan Encounter" to climb Coba. My 10 year old son and I loved the jungle, Coba, zip lining etc and it was well worth the $.
We also went to Xcaret our first year and that was a lot of fun too especially the turtle exhibit and the night show. We booked the dinner package and it was wonderful to enjoy dinner and a wonderful show. The place is huge and lots of fun to explore. That said, my hubby would have loved to have just stayed completely at the resort and skipped any day tours.
We also parasailed last year which was a lot of fun since my son and I went up tandem.
The time goes by so quickly during vacation! Enjoy!

First time in Mexico

First of all being your first visit to Mexico I wouldn't try to do everything thats available. You will return home exhausted. There is much to do in the PDC area. I would try at least a tour to one of the ruins either Chichen Itza or Tulum. Relax on the beach, do some shopping and eating on 5th ave. Remember you can do alittle at a time and make it an annual destination. We are going to PDC area for the 14th time in Sept and still haven't seen all of it. In Dec. the weather should be great. Lets hope for no hurricanes this fall and have a wonderful time

Don't forget you can book Alltournative tours through Playa.info and receive a free Playa.info t-shirt for each adult.

We were at the Lindo a year and a half ago.. There is much to see at the the iberostar complex. We alternated days laying by the pool and sight seeing. The one thing I wish I had done was the fat cat. We ventured to Cozumel on our own, and picked up a snorkeling gig on the ferry. It was ok. I know it would have been better if we had booked the fat cat. Next trip that is one of my goals. And Mark is right dont over do...enjoy!

I will definately go and see at least one of the ruins. I love that kind of stuff. I will need another full scrapbook for this trip I think. In the past we have gone to Alaska on cruise ships twice and we drove from Canada to California last year. I am hoping for nice weather but if it was a bit cooler I wouldn't care.....anything is going to seem tropical compared to Calgary in December. I hope the resort is a beautiful as the pictures....I am sure it will be. I looked at Alltournative tours and the Mayan Encounter does look amazing. I am sure we won't have any trouble finding stuff to do, maybe trouble deciding what to do first.
Thanks everyone for your replies....

Trying to decide

It is tough, trying to decide what to do during your vacation. My husband always wants to totally relax and not take any side trips but we compromise and always take one day trip. He is always a trooper because I have learned that I am the adventuresome one in the family and luckily my 10 year old loves that. Last year when we climbed Coba, as my hubby watched from the jungle floor, my son and I sat together at the top of Coba and just grinned at each other. Then later, when he saw the zip line, he was so excited he turned to me and said, "Mom, it's just like Survivor!!!" I was elevated to coolest mom ever in my son's eyes and the zip line was so much fun.
Basically my husband wanted to kiss the ground of the resort when we returned but we still laugh about many moments of that "Mayan Encounter."
