If you like to go to town everyday, then yes it makes a huge difference!!! Went past the Gala last year it's too far from town for us. Oh, yes it looks awesome!!! Would love to hear if anybody has stayed here. Never say never.

I toured the Grand Gala Emeralda last March with the owner. It was in the process of being built at that time. It appears that this is going to be a beautiful resort. The owner said that they will have a shuttle every hour to and from Playa. They are also going to have a 10 mile walking path for people that want to exercise. Some of the employees from the Sandos Gala are going to be working at this resort. I toured the rooms and they looked first class. When I was at the resort the pool wasn't in yet, but from the pictures it appears that it will be very nice. I think this is going to be a first class operation. I'm going to wait a year to let them work the bugs out, then I'm going to check it out. You can check the resort out at the following site: http://www.gala-grand-esmeralda.com/

Thanks for the info. That's what I wanted to know, if there was going to be a shuttle to and from Playa. It is such a bonus to have a shuttle, since the Gala is pretty close to Playa if you miss the last but then you can always take a cab back to the resort.

didin't look open
when we would drive by, the resort did not look open yet. I was staying at the Lindo (got back last night), so would pass by it. I'd be careful too from those pictures of the ocean. that is playacar water, not the water along the paraiso stretch of ocean. The actual pic of the pool, with water behind looks real, but the intense blue with the family shots... that's playacar or computer generated.

The water in the town of PDC and Playacar area is very intense blue. Like none I've seen before. Its due to the way the continental shelf goes out before dropping off into the straits. Not sure why its different in differnt places, but the water is much more beautiful in town and south of town that north (IMHO). It all depends on what you're looking for. For me, I fell in love with the water in Playa and have never thought it as pretty to the far north.
