first timer to mexico

hi all,
my wife and i intend to travel to mexico in the coming months and would really appreciate a few pointers.
a]can travel early nov,jan,feb,march time-whats the best time to go?
b]where is the best place/site to book our holiday-looking for all inc in either 4/5*
c]where is the best place to go 2--cancun/playa del carmen?
d]need to travel at a safe time-outside of hurricane season.
any help would be greatfully received

Andy/Kerri,
There is a nice person on this forum, user name Shammy, who is a travel agent and has helped many people who use these boards book their AI vacation. You may wish to use the PM (private message) feature under the Quick Links option (in the tool bar). You can then ask her some questions and if she can't help you, I'm sure she can point you in the right direction.
You will find that most on this board prefer Playa Del Carmen WAY MORE than Cancun (aka the concrete party jungle). Playa is just a bit more laid back IMO.
February seems to be a very popular travel month to Playa.

Grew up loving to watch Tim Conway. His slapstick routines were great (he and Harvey Corman). Just thought it would be a fun one to use today. On a side note, just got PaintShop Pro X by Corel the other day to do photo touchups (avoided Microsofts Visual Studio, wasn't about to pay for PhotoShop, and PaintShop Pro X product ranked well when compared to PhotoShop Elements).

Used to Love the Carol Burnett show! good wholesome fun!

I use Photoshop at work and just recieved elements from a friend for home, but dont have time to use it. let me know how paintshop works for you. Might have to downgrade to PC for Wife to work from home.

but these folks are from England and I can't help them book a trip. They need to use one of the tour operators in England to book their holiday. As far as what hotel to pick, they really need to see what's available from whatever tour operator they check with as they may not carry all the AI properties available in Riviera Maya.

First welcome to the forum. Since the forum is located Playa.info, its safe to assume that the members will choose Playa over Cancun. Also with your spread of dates, you should be well out of the major hurricane season with the exception of November.

Personally, I would go to www.cancunmap.com and get all the maps for the areas you are looking into. At $8US each they are great deals and worth thier weight in gold. It would be a shame for you to spend all your time at the AI and miss the rest of what the Mayan Riviera has to offer.

Ok, I'll take one for the team...

Anytime to go is great...anytime you have listed there will be wonderful...it is not during hurricane season, however, November and December are busy months and usually considered high season.
Depends on what your interested in, how far you want to stay from Playa, etc.
No question about it, the best place to go is Playa! The only reason we go to Cancun is to fly in and out of there...oh, and sometimes for a stop at the hospital for stitches...other than that, Playa is *the* place to be!
None of the months that you have listed are during hurricane season (except maybe Nov.)...last year's season just ran a little long.

many thanks to you all for your invaluable advice--at the moment we are seriously considering going in early/mid february-and booking late to try to catch a last minute bargain--looking to get a 4/5*al in the playa del carmen area for under£1000--do you know any decent sites that i can visit to try get a last minute bargain?
currently just use teletext holidays.
any tips/pointers would be greatly appreciated.
