Currently open stores in Centro Maya

Hi everyone! This past Sunday I did some serious wandering around Centro Maya and made a list of everything that was open so far. Here ya go:

Soriana: major grocery/dept. store
Woolworth: dept. store, lots of clothes, some even in natural fabrics
Marti: Sports gear/clothing store
Shasa: women's clothing store, polyester fabrics, tiny sizes, accessories
Coppel: home/electronics
Liz Minelli: women's clothing store, mostly unnatural material dresses in tiny sizes
Caruso: young men and young women's clothes
Sally Beauty Supply: the greatest store I've ever seen, ever in my life besides office supply stores, just like in the US. They even have Manic Panic hair dye, just the kind I used to use to dye my hair funny colors
Vicky Form: lingerie for women with anything under a C cup
East food court:
Italian Coffee Company: In the east food court, lettering looks like Gloria Jean's coffee place
Subway
Chinese Food
Telcel
Internet/Call center
Jewelry kiosk
Bromelia store
Urbanland: hipster clothes in for men/women, in small sizes of course
Island Optica: glasses
Flexi: Comfy shoes
HSBC Atm machines
Wayan Natural Wear: ethnic-y clothes in natural fabrics, jewelry, decor
Zingara: women's bathing suits
Coqueta Audaz: kids shoes
Melody Chic: women's and girls' polyester tiny clothes
Dettaglio: contemporary furniture
Bellisima: Makeup
Hipixi: jewelry, ethnic-y beaded belts, bags, shoes, tie-dyed clothes
Andre Bustan: women's shoes
House of Teens: makeup/accessories for the sparkly teen set
Nath: linen/natural fabric clothes for men and women
Angela: cute, sparkly pjs/lingerie for teens
Abito: linen/natural fabric clothes for men and women
Valop: women's clothes in tiny sizes, look like mostly polyester
Sunglass Island
Aysha: costume jewelry/accessories, looks like Claire's boutique
Furor: Teens/young adult sporty type clothes
Ogang: women's clothes
Cinema: open for business
West Food Court:
Hot Baking company

Thanks for the report Heather. What's up with the tiny clothes by the way? For the most part the Mexicans are not tiny, petite people, so are they trying to sell to touristy teens??? I noticed this is they way it is in the Cancun malls too and at Paseo del Carmen's shops. The normal folks with natural bodies don't seem to be of importance.

Those of us who live here who are "un-tiny" have been trying to figure that out for a long time. Although they may not be tall, there are a LOT of big women around here. They must make all their clothing.

It's not easy to be fashionable and "un-tiny" in Mexico.

So I just go on huge cheap-clothes-buying-binges when I'm back in the states, with end-of-summer sales at TJ Maxx, Ross, Marshall's, and, one of my favorites, Goodwill (where I find the best brands and certainly the cheapest bargains of all!).

Susie, SarahB, Libby, and I went to the movies and did some shopping at Centro Maya last night. The McDonald's in the West end of the center is now open, and there is a McDonald's ice cream kiosk in the East end that is open. Yes, I had a cheeseburger.

The movie theater was very nice, stadium seating with chairs that rock and have moveable armrests with cupholders. We all froze to death, though, the A/C was so high. It's only 27 pesos on Wednesdays for one movie, the rest of the time it is 45 pesos. We saw, "The Devil wears Prada," it was ok.

Centro Maya has really filled up fast We went in Sept and some of the stores mentioned by Heather were there but not stocked or open. We are going in Nov and have to check it out. Nice shopping center and huge parking lot. I could spend hours in Soriana looking at the Mexican produce and bakery.

Heather, thanks for the list of stores and what they carry. It's especially nice to see they have a couple of stores with nice fabrics in clothes.

Dide you take the bus? Is it from 30th like every other bus, and is it marked Centro Maya? Bus fare still 5 pesos?

Thanks!

Caroline

Hi Caroline,
You're a good commuter, I've never taken the in-town buses . I either walk or taxi or get a ride. To Centro Maya, I've been there with Susie's private car and M.'s truck, then I've also taken a taxi back. Taxi back cost 35 pesos (I think).

Are there furniture stores at Centro Maya that offer more upscale and modern home furnishings? Thanks.

There are two furniture stores in Centro Maya. Dettaglio (as mentioned) and Coppel. Coppel sells appliances, electronics and furniture (and more). The furniture choices are limited, but the quality appeared to be a few steps above Telebodega and very similar to some items in Dettaglio. You can browse their website. It is coppel.com. And for the linguistically challenged; you are looking for Muebles.

I forgot that Coppel sells furniture; I was thinking of it along the lines of an electronics store, etc. Thanks, Michael.
