Check out Grand Coco Bay in north Playa. Phenomenal beach with snorkeling nearby!

Which Barcelo did you stay at? I thought I read the beach wasn't that great.

There's only one Barcelo complex, all set on Xpu Ha beach, but there are 4 different sections of the resort. The beach is great in front of ALL the sections, but the swimming area is a bit better (meaning not rocky as opposed to some rocky parts) directly in front of the Barcelo Beach/Caribe. There's also more shade in that area as the palm trees are more mature and didn't suffer as much damage after Wilma as the newly planted palms in front of the Tropical/Colonial section.
