Viva Maya

HI!!
We'll be staying at the Viva Maya from July 23 to 28. Me, hubby & 6 & 13 year old kids. Does anyone have recommendations for which section has the best rooms? We need a fridge -- our daughter has juvenile diabetes so we carry lots of insulin.
Are there organized activities for teens? She's a bit old for the kids club I think!

Gracias!
Renee

Haven't been to the Viva Maya since the Wyndam bought them out, cannot remember if each room had a fridge or not. I bet the front desk would accommidate your need for one. As for the kids 6 & 13, they will have a blast. Always crowded with kids @ that age the 5 or 6 times we stayed there before. I see alot hanging out with the animation team as they practice each day for the nightly shows.

Viva Wyndham Maya

My wife and children (7yr & 11yr old) will be enjoying fun in the sun July 16th-23rd. Our third trip to Viva Maya. Did a quick weekend to Royal Hideaway once, but you really need at least a week to really relax & enjoy yourself.

Each room has a refrigerator. Email the resort before you go, tell them about your daughter's condition, and they may be able to get you a room closer to a restaurant.

My daughter, who is 11, has never gone to a Kids Club, no matter where we have been. There are so many kids around, she has never had a problem making friends! There are plenty of activities, all day, around the pool (aerobics, volleybal, water polo, etc.).

My room didn't have one. My friends stayed in a room down the hall and they didn't have one either. I went into another room of some people we met and they did have a fridge. Maybe you could e-mail them requesting a room with a refrigerator.

I stayed from july 2nd - july 11th by the way.

I'll add emailing the resort to my things to do this week Only 8 more sleeps to go! Our little guy really enjoys the kids club & organized activities. I think our daughter is more concerned with checking out the boys.
Has anyone stayed in the new building? I read somewhere that the rooms are bigger.
Scaramouche... we're practically neighbors! We're in the East Syracuse area.

There will be activities for teens

One of the animation team members will be designated as a leader of the teen activities and will ask teenagers if they want to play volleyball, go kayaking, whatever. Two good things about this: fun things to do, and a way to meet other young teens. (The 17 year olds are probably at the bar.)

Also, the teenage girls sometimes like two of the adult activities: the dance lessons with the enthusiastic young guys on the animation team and the water aerobics.

Tell your daughter to bring a few CD's. The teen club activities sometimes seem to involve music and the teen advisor will let the kids put music they brought along in the boom box rather than the music they have on hand. The teenagers enjoy this.

It was like this the last two spring breaks that we went to Viva Wyndham Azteca, and Maya follows the same drill. Your 13 year old will be fine. This spring my daughter was 16 and my son a tall 12 year old (if anyone asked him, he said 13) and they really enjoyed an occasional activity with the teen group. When we went two springs ago, my daughter was 14 and loved the teen activities, and my son was 10 and was envious. The teens are free to drop in and out of the activities whenever they want - there is no "sign in" or anything like that. Fewer activies but much cooler than "kids club"

If your daughter just hangs out by the pool looking like a slightly bored teenager, and the person in charge of teen activities will find her.

JJG,
Thanks SO much! I'm glad that they have an activity director for teens. I've added CDs to her packing list. We usually do the water aerobics together & I'm sure she'll "suffer through" some dance lessons with the animation guys! Dad'll be suffering through that for sure!!
