Just switched our dates
Hi everyone,
been awhile since we posted on here. We are heading to El Dorado Royale in Aug, for four days to celebrate our ten year anniversary. We already had our big two week family vacation to disney and disney cruise last mionth, like we do every summer with the kids. So this is some time alone that is well needed. I booked us the oceanfront suites originally, but now, after reading so much about the casitas on this forum, want to switch to a casita. I want to know what the differences are in the casita catagories. I have read all about them but wanted a first hand experience. Is the stand alone casita better than the ones clustered together? How far is a stand alone to the next casita? Is the swim up casita funner than the regular ones? And are they stand alone or clustered? I remember comming across a drawn out map with a good overview of the resort, but can't find it now that I need it. Also, I just payed a $400.00 penalty fee for switching dates after I made an adjustment to arrive one week prior to our original dates of Aug. 9'th thru the 12'th. We now will be there Aug. 2'nd thru the 5'th. Since we are limited on our time at the resort, what do some of you consider a "must do" while there? I am no stranger to the Yucatan. We have access to 8 private properties in the Yucatan from the Cancun strip all the way down to Majahual. We just want to be pampered and not worry about where to go for dinner, or things of that nature. Any help would be awsome. |

We stayed in a casita (Room 2505) which is on the second floor. The casita's are all basiclly the same inside. two tubs one of the is a hot tub. An outside shower.
The stand alone casita's are spread apart from each other but the room below us was about 15 feet away from the stand alone casita. You arent separated from everyone at all. The swimup casita's were nice.I am not sure on the price differnce. I enjoyed the casita but only booked it because our wedding was almost free because we stayed in a casita for a week and had 4 other rooms booked for 3 days or more. if not for that then we would have stayed in a "regular" room. We just dont spend much time inside to justify price difference. I would rather stay for twice the time and stay in a "regular"room. We are going back for our 1 year anniversery and will be staying in a garden view. But some of the perks were nice.Larger tv's larger pillow top beds a pillow menu more drink selections in your fridge. And the breakfast served in your room each morning was nice. Just fill out the menu before 3PM each day and the next morning they will deliver it whatever time you want. Have a great time cant wait to read your trip report. |

Also, does anyone know what the nieghboring resorts are to the EDR? I know I read somewhere that EDSS is associated with its next door counterpart (hidden beach, I think?) and allows sharing amenities, or maybe its vice-versa. Any help would be grateful.

spent a week last year in one of their swim up casitas for our honeymoon(spent the next week at the Iberostar Maya),the food was good, nice romantic quiet place, loved the outdoor shower(love to have one but probably not so practical in Chicago).....there are really no neighboring resorts you can walk to(if there were you really couldnt just walk up and in without paying for a day pass....

Guests at the El Dorado Royale aren't even issued wristbands...at least when we were there in August of 2005. It's isolated as far as neighboring properties go. The guests at the EDR do have available for purchase to them day passes to Hidden Beach Resort, which is adjacent to the EDSS (Separated by a fence). Getting to the HBR from the EDR is your own deal - there are taxi's available to you but it is a long haul from the EDR to the HBR which is well to the south. At that time in August of 2005 - they were three of the properties affiliated with Karisma Resorts.
