DRESS CODE? - Riu Palace Mexico

Is there a dress code for all men while having dinner? We're staying at the Riu Palace Mexico. Will my hubby have to wear dress pants for dinner or are shorts ok? How do the women dress? Are Capri's and nice shirts ok? Do you know if they take reservations for dinner before you get there or do you need to stand in line each day?

Honeymooner,
You may wish to send a PM to Shammy who is very knowledgeable about the dress codes of the AI's.
Here are a couple of links that you can search through that I found using the Search feature above looking for "Palace dress code".

Men have to wear pants to both the ala carte dinner restaurants AND the buffet - no shorts. I did hear that me could wear nice Bermuda type shorts to the two open air ala carte dinner restaurants (La Traviata & the Steakhouse) in the summer though. But make sure you bring a few pairs of pants cause you will need them. Women can wear capri's, skirts, sundresses - just dress like you'd would if you were going to a nice (but not overly fancy) dinner at home.

No, they do not take ala carte dinner reservations before you arrive. You have to line up to make reservations for the same evening at 10 am outside of Sir Edward next to the main buffet. It doesn't take that long though, I never stood in line for more than 10 minutes, but you'd be wise to be there AT 10 am, if not shortly before.

Hey Shammy, La Traviata isn't open in the evenings. It's just a day time buffet. El Patio is the open air steakhouse restaurant and yes, usually allow shorts for dinner there during the summer. You can reserve for the day you're in line and next day. In Dec they were taking reservations starting at 8:30 am, year before 7:30, in between that period it was noon. ?????
We've never had to stand in line more than a few minutes. And they have menus of the four restaurants so you can look at them before booking.

June to August

The summer in Playa is hot. This is also when the sea is the calmest, and has the best crystal clear turquoise look to it. The water is so warm you can stay in for hours. Blue skies prevail. Rainfall is seen, usually as short heavy afternoon showers after a hot day. There can be some wicked thunder storms this time of year, but they only last for an hour or so. Nights do not get cooler. Thin cotton clothes and a hat are your best friends this time of year. Along with your beach wear.
haha! Did someone from New England write this lol? Loving the part of "wicked" thunderstorms. This so sounds like me and my Boston accent:p
