Club Maeva Tulum
We're heading down there and I have a couple questions for those of you who have been, especially recently.
1. Which building would you recommend? I know A is newly renovated, and B is where all the action is. How about C? Is it quieter? Are there ocean views in all 3 bldgs? 2. I've been reading some reviews on that "OTHER" site that are saying it's very rocky everywhere in the water. I booked this place based on what I had read about there being LOTS of sandy places to swim, with good snorkeling nearby. Has anyone from THIS forum been recently to give me the facts about the beach conditions? (I know, it's too late now...but I'd like to know anyway! )Gracias a todos! ![]() |

We were there a few weeks ago and found it to be a gorgeous beach. It is true that much of the water is rocky, but that's due to a small reef that comes in to the very shallow parts of the water. There are places where you go in to just sand. The reef provides for good snorkeling. There is also an underground river that flows into one side of the beach that makes for cloudy water and a very cold sensation. We found the beach and ocean at Maeva to be just fantastic and it made more a much more interesting beach because of the different characteristics.
If you want water with no rocks at all, all you have to do is take a short stroll down Xpu-ha beach (which is the prettiest beach I've ever seen) to some great sand-only area. To me, it's about as great as a beach can be! Have fun! ![]() By the way, water shoes would come in really handy for the rocky areas because it sometimes can be a bit sharp - probably not enough to cut you, but enough to be uncomfortable. |

Thanks for the great info!! We'll bring our water shoes but hopefully we won't need them to swim. Which building were you in? Did you like it? I've heard the rooms aren't great, but who cares with a beach like that????

I don't know about the rooms. Palace Resorts owns Club Maeva now. We stayed at Playacar Palace and visted Club Maeva for the day from Xpu-ha Palace which runs a shuttle to Maeva for Palace guests since Xpu-ha no longer has a decent beach.
My understanding is that Maeva will become a Palace resort in about 6 months or so. |

On Dec. 22nd, Club Maeva Tulum will become Club Tulum. In August 2007, Club Tulum will close for an unknown amount of time and Palace Resorts will renovate all rooms, common areas, the lobby and the pool. The rooms will all get double jacuzzi's. A state of the art spa will also be added. They'll eventually re-open with a new name, which they have not made public yet.

Xpu-Ha Palace lost land
I think I read somewhere that it was a Liverpool Clothing Co. that had purchased the unuseable land at the old Xpu-Ha Palace resort. Of course I also heard that a Senoria' Newspaper lady owned the land. Your guest is as good as mine on the real story.

Xpu-Ha Land
I meant to say guess? not guest! of course. Shame on me for not proofreading.
PS. One story was that the Senoria' was so mad at Palace for turning it more into a resort and over building , than a Natural Nature Park, that she refused to ever??? sell the land to Palace. I mean the part of the land that evidently Palace never really owned anyway. The rest of THAT story was the unuseable land was what was lost in a court battle. Billie Sue |
