Couple packing questions
We're going to Sandos Playacar (Gala) in a few days... yeee haw!
Does anyone see need for long sleeved light jacket? Wondering about air conditioned restaurants and sunburn ? I'm packing only sleeveless & spaghetti strap shirts. My husb decided against packing dress shoes and will go with dressy open toe sandals. He called travel agent who thinks that'll suffice. So...what do you think odds are he'll be eating at the grill while his family enjoys the a la carte fare? ![]() |

I plan on bringing a lightweight terry jacket with me when we go to Playa on Saturday. More to stay warm on the freezing cold plane but also just in case the A/C is cranked too high in the resort's ala carte restaurants. And you're right... if you have a sunburn, you'll be even more sensitive to the cool A/C.
I also don't think any resort would keep your hubby out of the ala cartes because of dressy sandals. Some might have restrictions on "long pants required for men". I know David will need to pack a pair for that reason. (and we'll go back to the room for him to change into shorts after dinner too!) |

My husband wore nice leather sandals at Gala with no problem. Make sure your husband has a shirt with sleeves for the specialty restaurants. They won't let him in without long pants and a shirt w/ sleeves. Now you can where a sleeveless, strapless, tiny top with a super mini skirt and flip flops....no problem!!

Ditto!! I've learned the hard way...can you say BLISTERS???? The heat makes my feet swell, so my favorite "at home" sandals are killers in Mexico! Last trip I brought 3 pairs of flip flops: beach, town, and dressy! |

Three of us are going to the Sunscape PA in September also. I believe the men have to wear long pants to the ala cartes for dinner, but am not so sure about the buffet for dinner. The Sunscape website states casual elegance for all dinners at all restaurants, but someone on the Sunscape Forum yesterday stated dress shorts for men are okay at the buffet. If I find out the definitive answer, I'll let you know.

Someone from the Sunscape Forum answered by inquiry & said that sometimes the dress code at the buffet is relaxed and shorts are acceptable, but men should definitely pack long pants in case this is not the case when you go. She suggested to inquire at Guest Services upon check-in.

I've stayed at the Sunscape PA. Men can wear shorts (although they should be nice shorts) to the buffet but do need to wear pants to the ala carte restaurants. No long sleeve dress shirts though - a short sleeve polo, Hawaiian shirt, etc. is fine.

Will add follow up -- the dressy (open toe) sandals worked fine for my husband at the Sandos Playacar / Gala resort A La Carte (Mexican) restaurant. In fact, I saw men wearing run of mill t-shirts and flips. The Italian restaurant might have adhered to the dress code but the Mexican restaurant didn't seem to.
p.s. Had a great time at the resort! Playa Del Carmen has gorgeous beaches! |
