Figured I should finally chime in on this thread. Hanging low lately, just to keep up with my daily routine but still lurking on a daily basis. I'm always game for a fun get together as long as it's not in the middle of the day. A last minute deal usually works best for me.
Still think a breakfast run at Dick's Bar in Hudson would be a blast. The food is terrific (and slow like Mexico) and you can't beat the $1 bloody mary w/beer chaser. In downtown Minneapolis, Hells Kitchen or across the street at The Local would be another good breakfast choice. The drinks are somewhat spendier and you also have the issue of parking (usually $5) but still worth it.
For late afternoon or early evening, Rock Bottom Brewery in downtown Minneapolis has some terrific seating arrangements that would make it perfect for a gathering. Also, Ferns on Cathedral Hill in St. Paul has a large selection of bar height tables which is perfect for an informal meet. The food and drinks are fairly reasonable there too. I can think of a whole lot more...
As for swimming.. my daughter has been on her highschool swim team (Johnson) since middle school. For some reason, her school doesn't attract as many swimmers as the schools she competes against but she likes it because she gets to swim in more competitions. Last year she did really well but this year she's topped all of her personal bests. The best part is that she really likes doing it... even the training.
