First time (Newbie??)

Hello all
I just found this site a couple of days ago, and am enjoying it immensely. I have only been to Mexico twice, once to an AI in Puerto Adventuras with a group, and last winter by myself. I spent 2 weeks in Playa, attending a language school, and 2 weeks travelling around the Peninsula. I liked Playa the most, and am going back in November for 3 months.
I will keep this short, as I am still unsure of procedure here. *Gotta go do something productive anyway)
Bye for now

Thanks for the reply Guys.
Yes, it was an awsome trip. I stayed with a Mexican family while going to school. The rest of the trip I stayed in cheap hotels and travelled by Bus and Colectivos. The cheapest hotel was 295 Pesos, the most expensive was $58 US.
I have wanted to do this all my life, but my "Better (??) Half" would never do it. We have since moved on, and I love Mexico, so I am going to do it every year from now on.
I have photos and a couple of stories if anyone is interested.
Bye for now.

Bus Ride From Hell!

OK, Here Goes;

Day One:

Left Vancouver Island by Ferry around 2:00 PM Weds, Feb 1, arrived at Vancouver Airport around 5:00 PM. The flight departed at 8:30 PM for Seattle for a 3 hour layover, on to Houston for another 3 hour stop, then on to Cancun, arriving about 11:30 AM. ( don’t you hate spending almost a whole day travelling? ) Day One sort of sucks!

Day Two:

Caught a bus from the Airport into Cancun. Found my Hotel only a couple of blocks from the Bus Depot, and got all settled in. This was my first time in Cancun and I walked around town for a while, then decided to take a bus to the Hotel Zone to see what it looked like. I caught a bus near the Bus Depot and enjoyed the ride out. On the way out, tourist are getting off at various hotels until at the end, the bus is empty. It now turns around and starts back into town. It is now picking up Locals who are working on the hotels. The bus is completely jammed, not even any standing room left. I don’t know where to get off, so I am going to look for the Bus Depot. First Mistake, I am on the wrong side of the bus to see anything!
The trip back seems to be taking longer, people getting off the bus, until I am the only one on it. Oh well, guess I missed the Bus Depot, I will just watch for it on the trip back out to the Hotel Zone. We are in a very scruffy looking part of town, when the driver pulls into a yard and shuts off the engine. He opens the door and indicates I should get out. No way! I don’t know where in Hell I am, I haven’t seen a Taxi for 15 minutes, I am NOT getting off this bus! The driver talks to someone in the yard, yells at me a couple of times, then closes the door, starts the engine and off we go. I told the driver Autobús Depósito a couple of times, but he ignored me. Now he starts picking up passengers again. Suddenly I see the Bus Depot, so I stood up and said Alto, por favour. I guess he didn’t hear me, as we breezed right right by it. We are now on our way back to the Hotel Zone! I remembered seeing a bunch of Taxis parked on the way out so I watched for them again, thinking I could get out there.
There they are, and the bus stops to pick up 2 little old ladies. I stood up to get off, but the bus took off again before I could reach the door. Again the driver didn’t seem to hear me.
Off we go, dropping people off on the way out to the H.Z. Soon there is only myself and a young couple left. They were sitting right behind the driver, so I moved up beside them. I asked if there was another way back to town, other than this bus. ( did I mention, I was travelling on a tight budget, and hadn’t got into using taxis yet?) Anyway, they asked why, so I told them my tale of woe. Well they just cracked up, I though they were going to roll on the floor. They said they had heard of Gringos spending their whole vacation stuck on a bus and they fiqure this driver has it in for me. They get off, we reach the end and the bus starts back, again picking up workers.
This time I am really watching, and finally I see the Bus Depot coming up. We are in the center lane when the bus stops for a pedestrian. I forced my way to the door, and am trying to get it open, when the driver says, "Just a minute, I stop"! He finally pulls over a block later and lets me off. He is probably still laughing too! No tip for him!
So, I have been in Cancun for 5 hours, and have just spent over 3 hours riding the damn bus. I am a little upset. I head for the hotel, buying a bottle of Tequila on the way, and called it a day.
Day Two REALLY Sucks!

Day Three:
The next day I went looking for the bus to Puerto Juarez, changed my mind, and took a taxi instead.
Isla Mujeres was great, and the holiday really started to take off. I spent 2 nights there and enjoyed it very much. On Sunday I returned to Cancun and caught the Bus to Playa. Spanish school starts on Monday morning.

(to be continued)

As I am a newbie, I now have to figure out how to post pictures. Any advice? What resolution is best?

Noticed that you are using Webshots... so this info might be helpful in addition to the PM, I already sent you. Webshots makes it fairly simply for you to post online.
