Nice location, and 4 private beaches! We stayed at the Crown Pacific, up on the hill in Tangolunda.

Last year, my boss rented two boats and took about 40 of us to a deserted beach up the coast, where we cooked arachera and made home made ceviche. It rocked.

Thank you to this quote and to all others who have posted the most current situation. My husband has business in this area of Mexico and has been postponing his business trip until things settle. I have been copying the links - emailing them to him and hoping that he doesn't have to go at all.

probably one of the beaches we went to- there are so many gorgeous ones. We went with the local dive shop, Hurricane Divers- Roberto is the owner and his wife made the BEST picnic lunch...arachera was one of the dishes, very good! If you haven't been, the trip up to see that old coffee plantation and to see the waterfalls, is really good too- but the drive is long and bumpy.

So...the parents are starting to call the school about our April trip. If things don't settle down by Dec. we'll have to change the itinerary. We're booked in Oaxaca for 4 nights, Apr. 12-16, then heading to Huatulco for the rest of the trip. We have to return to Oaxaca to fly home as well. Any suggestions of alternate cities? We discussed Guanajuato, but 4 days there would be too much, and we really don't want to have to keep moving the kids every other day. There's so much to see and do in Oaxaca, and it's always been a safe place for the kids to hang out at the Zocalo. I would hate to have to change it.

I'm keeping posted on El Universal, which updates the situation every couple of hours.

I do hope you will keep with your trip. Yes there is unrest, but it really won't affect you trip. You won't be part of any political activies. The kids will really miss out if you guys don't get to go.

Thanks, I hope we can keep the plan as is too. We will be staying near the Zocalo, so I think if there is still marching and protesting going on in that area in January, we'll have to change the itinerary b/c the Board of Ed will most likely not approve it. If we went without board approval WE'D be liable if something happened to a student.

My colleague, who speaks to her daughter in Oaxaca daily, isn't too concerned....YET!

Here is a page with some (up to date) pictures of the situation in Oaxaca City.
Oaxaca Protest Photos

Warning- some of them are pretty graphic.
