Tony, I'm reading this thread and the conservatism thread, and I see you fell victim to something worth noting. The idea that McCain comes across as a moderate in the press, much the way W did at first. The media fawned all over W and continue to fawn all over McCain, because they come across as such "regular guys" -- especially to reporters whose background tends to make them anything but regular guys.

So because of that sense of comfort and familiarity, McCain and W are somehow interpreted as being "moderate."

There was/is nothing remotely moderate about either's record.

Not to blow this thing too off topic, but , does anything goes as free speech? Questioning of opinion, denigrating of personal motivation, crossing traditional lines of cilvility, shouting "FIRE!!!"in a crowded room? No limits?

The courts and history seem to come down on the side of just about everything but shouting fire in a crowded venue. I notice some on this board only believe in free speech when they can question or denigrate. Check out any of 100 Bush-bashing threads for vitriol.
