It is not all good:

Here is part of why I am PUI state tonight

1) Great time with Peeps over the weekend

2) Two notes from friends when we arrived home:

a) We know a woman. She babysat for our son when she was a college student. 15 years later she was Kathy's boss. She has a lovely daughter. Her daughter, 12, was just diagnosed with a stage 4 malignant tumor on her brain stem. Chemo to start as soon as the biopsy wound is healed.

b) This note from another friend, this one a 51 year old man.

"I gotta tell you though, folks, it doesn't look
good. I'm dealing with stage 4 metastasized lung
cancer. (And WTF! I'm not even a smoker!)
So, it seems like time is probably pretty short."

life's a bitch and then you die.

Oh, in addition, Kathy has 3 eye appointments in the next 3 weeks - two for field of vision tests and one for an electroretinogram.

Rogue River beauty.

No alcohol as of yet tonight. That is until I read your post. Opening my last bottle of GCA and having a Hefe. Thinking good thoughts about your friends.

Thanks for the good thoughts, but that's not going to happen. There is negative and not so negative as the options. We are resigned to that, and hoping for not so negative and acceptance into a Phase II clinical trial for something that might slow down the progress of the genetic, degenerative, retinal disorder.....but cure is not a word in the vocabulary.

That is the way it is. If she is not accepted in the clinical trial, we might be living in Mexico within 12-18 months. See while the seeing is good.

Oh, and iffen we're in the same place sometime, one of your massages and toe sucks could make life better for her

Roni....sending you all the good thoughts I can muster tonight. One of the highlights of this trip was meeting Kathy. What a wonderful, funny, intelligent, witty, charming woman....you are one of the luckiest men alive my friend!!! Cherish the time you have together and 'go for it'.....

I was working on a PUI, but ran out of wine, go figure. I wish you and Kathy all the best my friend, no matter what the outcome. I know you and Kathy will make the best of it, simply because of the obvious love you share.

We are here in Calgary, I am PUI with you.
Just a couple of glasses of shiraz tho, going to bed soon, gotta get up at 4 AM to get to the airport to leave for Sayulita. I hear we might have fun in Denver where we have to connect- who knew it was the world's 13th largest airport?!?!

Have fun you guys, hold the fort.
