Pre-PNWPM Camping Trip Report
We’ve been a little busy lately, so I guess I’ll start this thread off… So after this it’s tag you’re it, MikeW (Gne…gne…gne…)
![]() Day 1 (Monday) Woke up about 1 hour later than we wanted to. Oh well, it IS a vacation, after all, right? — Semi-Almost-Thing #1MikeW likes to get an early start. Since everything was packed last night, all we really had to do was eat breakfast and start driving…Usually we are packing right up to the last minute. See, we do learn from our errors. I had to check the inside of the PUP before we left home. You see, my cat likes to crawl in there when the door is open, and sometimes when we haven’t checked…yes, you guessed it… the cat gets locked in there…. I’ll let MikeW tell you that story sometime… No cat inside, in fact Mr. Cat is staring at us from the porch. Poor thing, he’s going to the radiotherapy vet while we are gone to get radioactive iodine treatments for his thyroid cancer. Just in case I say my final goodbyes to him. On this trip, we had many ‘stretching breaks’ for MikeW’s back. I remarked that this trip was the first trip in 20 years that I was able to use real human (semi-clean) bathrooms for every ‘nature’s call.’ Stopped for gas and to buy a bucket in Bishop, CA. We had forgotten to pack the bucket---here is another Semi-Almost-Thing #1. We pulled into Sherwin Creek Camp at about 3pm, and found a great ‘partial shade’ site (#66). We put up the PUP, unpacked, and found out that one of the telescopic locking posts for the awning didn’t lock, so we rigged the post so that it was on top of the bear box (Another Semi-Almost-Thing #1, but turned into a positive Thing #5...hey, not all Things are bad ).Bear box…WTF??? We noticed that there were many posted bear warnings and brand-new bear boxes for the coolers at every site. There were postings everywhere about a $150.00 fine for non-compliance… Every camping cooler had to be stored in the bear box, and all food covered in the car. This was a new phenomenon. It reminded me of Yosemite. Very strange… So far, only a few ‘Semi-Almost-Things #1’ happened… 1) Woke up one hour late 2) Had to buy a bucket before we got to the site (forgot it at home), so we bought one in Bishop. 3) One of the telescopic locking posts for the awning didn’t lock, so we rigged the post so that it was on top of the bear box. A good Thing #5 4) The water pump didn’t work, so the new bucket was the means of bringing water to the PUP also a Thing #5 and #6. It was a thing #6, because …well, I’ll let MikeW explain it ![]() All in all, MikeW handled his Things well this trip ![]() After setting up camp, we had 3-cheese stuffed tortellini with onions, green peppers, zucchini, eggplant and tomato sauce, baby lettuce and herb salad with Dijon mustard dressing, sprinkled with butter-garlic croutons, and a nice 2005 Bogle Merlot...Sat outside for awhile and looked at the beautiful stars... Life is good... Quote for the day: “Camping is the ‘Mother’ of invention.”

Photos are mandatory However, the program for downloading is on MikeW's computer. Since he actually works for our living...I'll just have to patiently wait until he can upload them.
