intro and question

Hi. I've been checking out this website for awhile... love the webcam! I'm getting married in Playa del Carmen May 26, 07. I've never been there but it looks beautiful and fun. I was thinking about the Playacar Palace for the wedding, but now am looking into the RIU's.. maybe the new one (Riviera Maya). Does anyone have any comments/advice about either of those places (or any of the other RIU's) or any other suggestions for a nice AI resort where I could have a nice wedding. My concern about the RIU's is too crowded, but I don't know! Thanks in advance for any help!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.
I am not familiar with any of the places you mentioned. I have however stayed at the RUI Tequila and attended a wedding at the RUI Palace (across the street). I was impressed with the Palace and thought their beach wedding was great. Random people will be there, as they are on the beach all day. I didn't think the resort was crowded at fact felt very comfortable. Good luck with the planning.
By the way, if you search the All Inclusive threads you might find a lot of useful information that might aid you in your quest for information.

re: playa wedding/RIU or Playacar Palace

Hi. Thanks for the reply! I've been searching on the web looking at pictures and info for ideas for the place for my wedding. I have noticed the "random people" in some of the wedding pics and I just really don't like that. That's one of my hesitations about the RIU Palace. That's life I guess and I really don't 100% know what to expect (obviously), but I just think that I wouldn't like seeing a bunch of random people around (or having them in pictures!). Then again, I don't want to pay thousands of dollars for a private private beach ceremony somewhere, so maybe I will just have to deal with it. The Playacar Palace has a wedding terrace that looks like it overlooks the ocean, so it would be more private (I assume), but I just don't know! I am starting to become one of those stressed out brides... and the whole point of the destination wedding was no stress and all fun! I guess that's asking for too much! Well, thanks again... and if anyone else reads this and has any advice...ANY ADVICE about anything at locations, hotels, playa activities.... it would be great! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Ashley. Congratulations on your upcomming wedding! I'm sorry I don't have any info specific to your question however....My sister got married in Playa in '99 at the Porto Real. NONE of us had ever been there or had a place like this forum to help us out and we only new 1 person who'd ever been to Playa...needless to say it was an adventure. I've been back 8 times since

I understand your concern about "random people" on the beach during your wedding however I must say it's the random people who can make it interesting and special. There were people taking pictures from the balconies and the beach, but most people would respect our space and hang back, watch and cry along with us. In a few pictures of the actually ceremony, there are several local children and an older woman in the background playing on the beach and picking up shells. Those are my sisters favorite pics and they're just beautiful. Of course the huge, drunk guy sleeping under the palapa next to us had to be moved by security You have to remember tho that this was 7 years ago in an area that was in town and had more beach traffic than you would probably have.

Good luck with the planning and the wedding and be sure to post pics...we sentimental types love to cry at a good wedding.
