Honest Abe comments on Dubya

It's a muggy, quiet, overcast day in Playa today. Let's stir things up a little shall we?

From todays NY Times Poll:

"Mr. Bush recorded a gain of four percentage points in how the public views his handling of terrorism, rising to 55 percent approval from 51 percent a week earlier. This was his highest approval rating on the issue since last summer and followed the arrests in Britain in a suspected terror plot to blow up airliners.

Mr. Bush’s overall standing was nevertheless unchanged from the previous week, with 57 percent disapproving and 36 percent approving, far below the level Republicans in Congress would like to see as they prepare for elections in November.

Compounding the Republicans’ political problems, the survey reflected significant dissatisfaction with the way Congress was doing its job. Voters in the poll indicated a strong preference for Democratic candidates this fall".

I am reminded of Mr. Linclon's saying:

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

People are starting to pay attention to what this President says...and that is not good for the GOP.

Both parties suck. The approval rating of congress is even lower than the peeresidents. Give me some moderates like Harold Ford Jr., Lieberman, McCain, Evan Bayh, etc. lets get a viable 3rd party.

I dunno...anymore everytime McCain opens his mouth he makes my head hurt! You never know which side of the fence he stands on! I used to like the guy but I'm starting to think he's like all the other politicians...Say whatever will get him the votes.

I've been paying attention for a long time, but I still can't figure out what he is saying. And I'm not talking about that drawl . . .

The dems will find a way to squander their momentum. The closer to election time, the more you will see of the Hollywood crowd, Mikey Moore, Jimmah Carter, Al Gore, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, John Kerry, Cindy Sheehan, Yee-ha Dean, left-handed Lithuanian lesbians for social justice, etc. etc. Once people are in the voting booth with their shaking hands reaching for the democratic lever, these images will be seered, I say seered into their brains.

I can actually appreciate a politician who can admit they are wrong. The only problem is none of them admit it until the pile of evidence is overwhelming. John McCain will be 72 in 2008. He is still very sharp and I believe relatively honest. I think running an old republican against anyone at this point would be a bad idea. If McCain wins his party’s nomination I would think it would be a slam dunk for the Dem’s to put a charismatic younger candidate like John Edwards against him. I am noticing on local election signs that the Dem candidate have there party in huge letter, larger than there names. This is definitely a backlash of the GW party fumble. I think this “We are not the other guy” strategy will continue into 2008. The Dems will not have to establish a platform to run on.

Here's something he said yesterday. Perhaps he doesn't understand the differences between objectives, strategy and tactics. It is pretty sad state of affairs imo:
Quote:
BUSH: The strategy is to help the Iraqi people achieve their objectives and their dreams, which is a democratic society. That's the strategy. The tactics -- now, either you say, yes, it's important we stay there and get it done, or we leave. We're not leaving, so long as I'm the president.

My favorite quote attributed to President Lincoln, is:

"It is better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

I think this one better conveys the essence of GW:
"If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know how - the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what's said against me won't amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference."
