Tempel Lipizzan Outing

Well another day, another adventure with the family.

Today we headed north of the city of Chicago up near the Illinois - Wisconsin border to Wadsworth. We live about half way between Wadsworth and Chicago, both of which are along Lake Michigan.

The reason for going up north was to see the show at Tempel Lippizan. Anybody in the Chicago / Milwaukee area who has any interest in horses should see this show. There are more details about the horses and the show HERE

As before, click on the thumbnail images for a larger version.

We will start with the usual picture of the girls

The show lasted about 1.5 hours including a brief intermission. Each "act" of the show lasted about 5 - 10 minutes and featured different ages and ability levels of horses. The Lipizzan horses are some of the most beautiful and well trained horses I have seen.

The first act of the show was a chance for the foals and mares to come out.

The Lipizzans are born a dark color and slowly turn the white and silver color commonly found in the older horses. On a rare occasion a foal will keep its dark color through adulthood. If I remember correctly, the horses usually lose all of their dark color by age 7 and will live to an average age of 25.

I will just post a few of the pictures I took so you can get an idea of how beautiful the horses are.

As you can see from the photos, the horses are able to do all kinds of amazing things. Between the jumping, the trotting sideways and diagonally, etc. this was a great show.

You can imagine having three young daughters, just how excited and enthralled they were by the horses. My youngest reminded me once again how we should get rid of our dog and buy a farm so we can have horses.

Do you feeel it an indication that I may be part Lippizan?

My daughter would LOVE that. I have been wanting to take her to the Medival Times thing but just can't bring myself to do so. She loves horses and begs for one on a daily basis. Too bad I just ran out of summer, I would have taken her!

Nice pics though. They are amazing!

One of our forum members works for the Tempel Lippizans, and was kind enough to send my mother tickets for the show (I grew up in and my mother still lives in that area). My mom took my sister and her two kids. They all had a great time!!

My two older daughters have been to Medival Times. It is a fun show but can be a bit scarey for the younger kids. When my 8 year old went I think she was just old enough to enjoy the show.

I remember that forum member PM'ing me about some different topics and had mentioned she was involved. I had meant to PM her a few days ago to try and meet her, but never quite got that done.

Oh well, I think she will be in Playa either in November or March when we are there. I guess we will have to travel a few thousand miles to finally meet.

Is it worth the money? The tickets are crazy for as short of show that it is.

Still talking about Medievil Times right? If so, than I don't think so. They are obscenely expensive. Luckily for me, my mom loves to take the kids to things like this for their birthdays. This is a double bonus because not only do I not have to pay, I don't even have to go.

The Tempel Lipizzan tickets however were well worth the cost.

The lipizzans are worth the money. I waited a long time to see that show., but do beware if your going w/ young female children they sell stuffed white horses that are a must have for $10, 15, and 30. And when you get to tour the stables, when they say keep your fingers out they mean it!! My son didnt and ill tell you that horse bit pretty hard, enough to draw blood.
