This was growing behind my place the other day and freaked my niece and I totally out.
It was firmly attached to the ground and firm to the touch, too (not that I was about to touch it with my bare hand!). It stood about 2" tall and was topped with what looked like a little patch of brown snakeskin. Totally weird and spooky! Any ideas? Oh, and there's no sign of it there two days later. ![]() |

Not entirely sure...but it is very cool. Looks like it may use those spots for something...like dissolving insects?
But, it looks like a mushroom to me Perhaps an Amanita of some kind? But, one shouldn't go by visual identification alone...To know for sure, one would need a spore sample and a microscope. The spores would be located underneath the 'bell' area....and all of that is kind futile since it is gone ![]() It is probably a good idea that you didn't touch it. ![]() |

Good Gawd! When in doubt....Kill the Mutant Sucka!! If you poke it with a stick and it doesn't die...or if you step on it and it's still alive... or you pour bleach on it and it's still there the next day?...
Please dont touch it! Make sure that the kitties dont get close to it!! (Weird looking thing, isn't it?!)Do you own a machete? P.S. Hi Susie! xoxo ((hug)) |
