How very interesting...makes me wish I'd become the archaeologist I wanted to be when I was in the 4th grade. Then I could have a legitimate excuse to come to Mexico for "research."

My friend went back to school at age 50 and received her degree in Archaeology. It is never too late

Me TOO! I have tons of archiological books on Mexico. Some pretty sick and bizzarre things happened there.

So much for the myth/stereotype of the 'peaceful primitives' huh.

Well, whaddya expect- they were a quick and easy protein source! Think about it- the poor Aztecs had very little larger game to hunt for for food.North America is not like Africa with herds of protein running around. Corn must get boring after awhile.

More than that..human sacrifice was part of/ingrained into the religion/culture.

One of my colleagues had an interesting theory about the fall of those cultures that consumed human sacrifices...he thought that one reason they may have died off/disappeared was because they got prion (Cruzfeld-Jacob Disease/Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis) infections from eating brain and heart tissue (neurological tissue) from their 'victims'.

He would have a difficult time proving it, but it is an interesting theory.
