Hola y gracias...

Hola to all. I have been lurking for just over a month now. This site has a wealth of information. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the great info.
I surprised my wife with a trip for her "second anniversary of her 39th birthday". We are coming down to the PDC area three weeks from today. Is it cool for a guy to say that he is "giddy"? Maybe stoked would be better? She isn't so sure about Mexico (it was never high on her list of places to visit) but I am making up for her lack of excitement. I'm sure we will both love it there.
We are staying at IB del mar for 9 days. In typical fashion, I have researched everything I could for our first trip to Mexico. I think we have our side trips narrowed down to Xcarat (without the dolphins), Chichen Itza, and a trip on the Fat Cat. Obviously, there will be a couple trips to PDC as well. I don't care that drinks and food are included in my cost, I want to experience Playa too.
Anyway, thanks again to everyone. If I have any specific question (yes, I read the posting warnings... lol), I will be sure to post.

Murph,
Welcome and Congrats on your decision to visit Playa. It was not on my wife's short list either but I had wanted to go for years. We both loved it and if you wife likes beautiful white sand beaches, turquoise waters, wonderful mexican (Yucatecan) cuisine, Mayan ruins/history, and great friendly people, then you two are going to have a GREAT TIME!

Well it certainly sounds like you've done your research............I think its great that you've done this, it'll make your trip that more wonderful. You'll have to let us know how your wife enjoys the vacation. My money is on that she'll want to go back to Mex. as soon as possible. Have a great time

Good call on the surprise trip!

I did the same thing for my wife back in April, but for no special reason at all (just because I love her so much!)

You will have a great time, I'm sure!

Here's the thing - while Playa is in Mexico, it (for the most part) usually does NOT end up being what people expected from a "Mexican" vacation. Other than a few troublesome (to me) issues (e.g. the pushy vendors between Plaza Antigua and about calle 2, pushy timeshare vendors, periodic crazy/rude cab drivers), Playa isn't Mexico, its PARADISE!

The fact that you've found this board and are willing to do some research JUST made your vacation three times better, at least! If you have fun (and you will) consider skipping the AI route next time... (Just my two cents)
