VERY interesting movie, check out this trailer...

Jesus Camp

Check out this trailer and tell me if you feel as compelled to see this movie as do I.

I'm a huge fan of indie film, especially documentaries. I haven't been this compelled to see a film since Spellbound and Hands on a Hardbody.

What struck me was the kid saying he was saved at 5 because he wanted something more out of life....I was just figuring out how to tie my shoes!

I freaked out about that! Also, all those little kids crying etc. Geez, at that age I was trying to learn how to color inside the lines.:p

One of the things that struck me as interesting was one of the critics calling the film "even handed" at the beginning of the trailer. I hope this is the case. One of the things I like and respect most in a documentary maker is being evenhanded, despite having passionate personal feelings about a subject. Its the mark of a true professional, I feel.

For example, one of my favorite documentary films of all time is Michael Moore's "Rodger and Me." I also liked "Fahrenheit 911," however NEITHER of these films could be described as evenhanded.

A friend suggested another documentary about the war called "Why We Fight." Although he "bats for my team" (he's a left leaning Democrat), he said that he was impressed at how "non-preachy" (as he put it) the film was. It should arrive from Netflix this week. If its interesting, I'll post a thread about it.

That was just on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp) last week- it is very interesting.
Not sure the Repubs would like it though.

Quote:
The film describes the rise and maintenance of the United States military-industrial complex while concentrating on wars led by the United States of the last fifty years and in particular on the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. It alleges that every decade since World War II, the American public has been told a lie to bring it into war to fuel the military-economic machine, which in turn maintains American dominance in the world. It includes interviews with John McCain, Chalmers Johnson, Richard Perle, William Kristol, Gore Vidal and Joseph Cirincione. The film also incorporates the stories of a Vietnam War veteran whose son died in the September 11, 2001 attacks and then had his son's name written on a bomb dropped on Iraq, a 23-year old New York man who enlists in the United States Army citing his financial troubles after his only family member died, and a former Vietnamese refugee who now develops explosives for the American military.

Doesn't sound as evenhanded as it was described to me. Too bad. I would still like to see it.

By the way, I love the fact that it was Eisenhower, a Republican, that warned of the dangers of the growing military-industrial complex.

I often describe myself as an Eisenhower/Goldwater Democrat.

Why should the radical islamofaciasts have all the fun. Any belief taken to the extreme is dangerous.

I finally watched the trailer.

Wow.
Get 'em indoctrinated while they're young, huh Stew!

Not that it always works...I went to Sunday School and co-ed church camp when I was young (where there was more kissin' than prayin'.)
