Finally ...

I've been a lurker for many months now and have finally bit the bullet and joined this site.
The two of us will be starting our first trip to Mexico on 12th Sept and cannnot wait. It certainly takes the edge off going to work every day when we remind ourselves that our two week stay is getting nearer and nearer
We are staying at the Riu Tequila and had started to regret this decision but some of the posts on the 'Liking AIs or not' thread put us at ease. We fully intend to not be prisoners of the hotel grounds, and no matter where we lay our heads each night we're going to have so much fun - how could we not, you have all made Playa sound so wonderful.
So really this post is just to say 'hi' and also to thank all of you for heightening how much we are looking forward to being there.
Now - what will the weather be like?

Oh ay man!

Welcome!

The RUI is a good place but you're right, it's more interesting to get out.

You'll probably often find yourselves on 5th Avenue and the surrounding streets to eat, drink and stroll about.

Remember one thing...people do like to express their own views and opinions. Riu Tequila is a very decent hotel with dedicated and hard working crew. Enjoy your stay and smile...viva el Mexico

We'll be in Playa Sept. 16-23 and staying downtown at the Real Hotel Playa del Carmen. If you see an old aging hippie couple that's us. Say Hi and welcome to the forum

Yes, the RUI is a good hotel. We have friends who work there.

But on this forum we encourage people to get out and about and not stay cocooned in an AI so they actually visit the country instead.

We stayed last November at the Riu Playacar and had a great time In fact we are returning this November to the same hotel. Had breakfast a few times at the Tequila and thought it was just as nice with an even bigger pool than Playacar. There is an unofficial website for the Riu hotel chain with extensive reviews and hotel layouts etc. They are all in walking distance so you can stay at the one and have priveleges at all three except for the evening meals. The staff is very attentive and hospitible especially with tips. Enjoy yourself
