props to my fellow hoosiers...
FWIW, I think it's great that folks like you are willing to donate to help somebody you have never met. I think it's fair to say that nobody I know well would describe me as "sentimental" but I have to say that an act like that is very much in the "Spirit of Playa" as I know it.

Thanks to everyone for supporting DJ!
I was with him for 6 hours today. He's doing very well, but a complete recovery is going to take a while. The doctors are very happy with his progress. He's been sleeping a lot, but when awake, he's been fairly coherent. He really wants his cigarettes, hates the hospital food, and is asking about his friends. Good signs. Updates on DJ's condition and fundraising events will be posted here as time allows. |

We met DJ one night in February and he was a most gracious host. It was a relatively slow night at DJ's and my wife and I had wandered in to check it out. We had been informed at the peep meet the night before about it so we thought it might be fun.
We walked into the bar and it was just DJ and Paul sitting there. Both DJ and Paul were friendly and welcoming right off the bat and we ended up spending the entire evening there with those two playing "guess that tune". DJ was having a great time trying to stump us with his tunes collection. In the end we made a couple of great friends that night and we hope DJ is well soon and we can visit him and Paul on our next trip this winter to Playa. Heres a picture of Paul, DJ and myself that very night:

Man, it's so hard to have a friend hurt and being so far away, unable to help in any direct way.
Of course we've sent money. It's not enough and we're just happy to have a chance to do something. It's a wonderful thing to see the folks on this forum reaching out - some of them not having even met DJ. God bless you all and thank you so much. DJ will be so happy when he knows how people have gathered together to support him. You are awesome, peeps!

DJs special angels
This was a poem I found today by Emily Mattews. Three of these versus, made me think of all the special people that are reaching out everywhere-the angels here are that going to the hospital-and doing what we can and for everyone out there-some who know DJ but many who dont-this poem is for you :
FRIENDS ARE LIKE ANGELS WHO BRIGHTEN OUR DAYS IN ALL KINDS OF WONDERFUL AND MAGICAL WAYS YOUR THOUGHTFULLNESS COMES AS A GIFT FROM ABOVE AND DJ KNOWS HE IS SURROUNDED BY WARM CARING LOVE FRIENDS ARE LIKE ANGELS WITHOUT ANY WINGS BLESSING HIS LIFE WITH THE MOST PRECIOUS THINGS this brought tears to my eyes as I feel the love this community has for DJ and may God bless each and every one of you. And I guess you did notice, I changed a few words here and there. |
