"Virgin" Playcar visitor!

Hi Everyone! My name is Ang, and my two best girlfriends, Amy and Carrie, and our husbands, are coming to Playa Oct 12-16th! (This is in celebration of us girls turning 30!) This is our 1st trip to Playacar, hence the "virgin" reference in my title.We are staying at the IB Tucan, and can't wait! Hopefully PDC will be crazy enough for us to party! My hubby and I have been to Cancun 4 times, and loved CoCo Bongo. I have heard that PDC isn't as crazy as Cancun, but we are still looking forward to spending our days on the beach, and possibly on a catamaran, and our nights in PDC- checking out the bars!!

No worries! You will have a great time walking 5th Av each night. Plenty of places to hang out. Tequila Barrell and many others. I'm sure the ol timers here will chime in with other suggestions. Have a great time!! BTW.....Playacar is awesome. Great beaches and beautiful water.

I'm a newbie, both to the boards and to PDC (will go for the first time Jan 12th). I know this sounds stupid but what is Playacar?

think of it as a gated community of residences, rental villas and resorts,
adjacent to PDC

Playacar is sort of like a suburb of PDC. The IB and Gala resort next door to the south have the best beaches. You'll be within walking distance or a 5-10 minute cab ride ($5.00-$6.00 with tip) of the action in PDC. You'll love it. Enjoy.

Been to Cancun once and will never go back if I can help it. Playa is soooooo much better and you don't get stuck with big cover charges. Playa is jam packed with a ton of smaller bars and clubs with far more personality. You're gonna love it!!

45 bucks for cover??? Does it at least include your drinks, or is that just to get in?

Where I live they charge 15 bucks for cover (men only) and you get all you can drink.

Are they crazy?! And what about the music there, man! how "old" can you go! From Michael Jackson to Nirvana, Elvis and House. TERRIBLE music there... Cancun is no place for me, it's so fake there. but maybe I'm going

Battie-
Our last trip to Cancun was 2002..so yes, my taste in Fun places to hang out has changed quite a bit. As we are more content in a little hole in the wall bar with good atmosphere and music versus corny shows---we are staying at an AI- so I guess we can get the "Mexican Elvis" impersonator at our hotel (haha)
Our friends were interested in C.B. since it was fun when Hubby and I last visited. (However, I didn't remember the cover being 45usd...I thought it was only 20?)
And, the whole reason why we chose Playa instead of Cancun was because we wanted a more relaxing atmosphere that wasn't quite so commericalized.
Inflation, I guess. $45usd can get us quite a few tequila shots, or margaritas in PDC- so I think we'll skip CB and just tell our friends to go without us!
I'm looking forward to going to the Tequila Barrel and ******? Oh, and Mannes Biergarten, and soo many places that this site has reccommended, so little time!

yeah
$45 cover included open bar
...but we couldn't get to the bar
...and couldn't get any help on the floor
Ended up with one warm beer.
..but the show was great.
Never again, tho.

BTW...i like Cancun - for what it is.

Have a blast. Bet you'll love the place, including the beach(es), the bars, restaurants, and the folks around there. Plus, it's much cheaper than in Cancun.

Better get one of them Playa Del Cards to get the most out of your dollar.

This trip to pdc is my first into mexico, I'm going with my best friend leilani. This is also my first vacation somewhere ever (waaaaaay overdue) and am thrilled as our hotel has some really good beach-pool reviews.
What's the best way to find tips in the threads?
