Kelli had her pumpkin spice latte, I veered off my usual path of brewed coffee and had a maple mocciatto, kids had chocolate milk and split a molasses cookie with orange icing! We sat on the patio for 45 minutes or so around sunset, perfect weather... I love those perfect moments and I love getting to spend them with my family. THANK YOU STARBUCKS, FOR BRINGING MY FAMILY TOGETHER AND MAKING US CLOSER!!!

blasting just about all competition and bean diversity out of town, collecting the extra money, raising the tab as an extra bonus, and splitting the dividends with some of them select shareholders north of the MX border; thereby leaving the poor coffee junkies in PDC strapped out of luck, without enough bucks for other routine fixes - well, at least till next paycheck.

How long ago has Starbucks moved in? (first one and last one) How many coffee shops were there prior to the first Starbucks? How many coffe shops were there prior to the last Starbucks? In short, the process of eradication is not that swift. It does take time, even though I'm sure them Starbucks top brass folks would rather have it otherwise. ![]() Moreover, evidently the eradication process is not full proof, not unlike the pharmaceutical war on disease-causing pathogens. There will always be a few of those more stubborn insurgents that will take longer to collapse, and still fewer of them pesky microbes to actually survive the onslaught via drug immunity prompted by genetic variation and innovation. Indeed the fact that Starbucks has thrived with such invasive force is in itself a testament to innovation in formulating strategies to strip some, if not most of the market share of coffee fixin arenas away from the traditional locals. Never-the-less, Starbucks' phenomenally rampant success has inevitably provocked stiff resistance from those not only apt and willing to adapt but actually adjust to this emerging phenomenon of innovating in the coffee sippin experience. In effect, innovation provockes reactionary resistance and further innovation along those ready to and willing to adjust and improve in the preparation of an appealing and marketable commodity. Here lies the sole positive contribution of this emerging giant - stimulating further innovation from the remaining stragglers comprising the competition. The problem arises when the competition is eventually reduced to virtually a couple of left overs, unable and/or deemed sufficiently inept to force Starbucks to further adapt and reduce the cost of its high priced commodity.. And I am not so sure that such a scenario is either accidental nor healthy for the community. (all this without making reference to the tax issues of course) ![]()

Yes the evil Starbucks....
Captains Log Stardate 2106... Destination Planet Starbucks for meeting with Barista 2135 & Barista 2233 to discuss takeover of Planet WalMart. .....On that note I am off to start my Christmas shopping. First I will hit the drive thru Starbucks for my Frap then WalMart.....Then if I am hungry I will have a Grilled Chicken Sandwich at MCDonalds..... What an evil world I live in...where I can chose where to spend my hard earned money...shudder....

But even that far into the future I'll venture to assert the perennial cautionary note: Be wise and diversify your choices lest one day you find yourself with none left.

Just because I purchase a drink at Starbucks a couple times a week does not mean I nor anyone else doesn't "diversify my choices"....In fact my favorite jewellery store is a small store downtown not more than 300sq ft in size where the owner makes her own stained glass pieces. I love her store. I buy my veggies from a small fruit stand that is open year round. I buy my wine from a local winery. I buy my meat from a small butcher shop that has had the same owner for over 25 years. Sometimes, however, I do purchase items from Big Box stores. If a small owner operated coffee shop makes me a drink that is cheaper than the one I like at Starbucks but I do not enjoy the taste as much why would I buy it? I buy things I like. Forget the conspiracy theories for awhile....we are talking about a cup of coffeee.

please don't misunderstand me, I'me not so much anti Starbucks as I am pro- local ownership, irrespective of what logo the business in question may carry. It could even be Galaxybucks for all I care. |
