Some parts good, some bad, depends on where you are going. We are in now in the Fall traffic season here in Los Angeles. School is in, vacations are over, more traffic than a few weeks ago. I'll work from home as much as possible.

Rome had the worst traffic I ever experienced...
We almost missed our flight to NYC, and we even allowed for 2 hours travel time + 2 hours prior airport check-in. My commute from home to work is sans-traffic, normally (I leave very early or after 9am)...but I still allow at least 1.5 hours travel time, each way. |

I drive about 50 kilometers (about 30 miles) to work each way. If it's no traffic I use 45 minutes, but the worst day ever I used 3 hours. A average morning I use 1.5 hours, and thats about the same I use if I take the bus and train, but then I have to leave earlier.

* Freeway congestion is getting so bad, you can change a tire without losing your place in line.
* Traffic is always heavy in both directions. There are just as many people trying to get to whatever you’retrying to get away from. * You have mixed feelings when you see an opening in rush hour traffic. You’re glad for the opening, but you wonder who died. * The only way to get home from work on time is to take the day off …. even then, you’re cutting it close. * Traffic is so bad nowadays, a pedestrian is someone in a hurry. * You can sit on the highways forever. In fact, some places have little exit ramps where you can pull over and make a car payment. * During rush hour the only way you can change lanes is to buy the car driving next to you. * Our highways have become insane asylums with turn signals. |

There are some advantages to living in a smaller town, if I drive to work it takes me about 5 minutes, with 2 traffic lights. I sometimes walk, it's that close!
I have noticed an increase in traffic from when I first moved here. I usually go to lunch at 11:30, a couple of weeks ago I went at noon. I thought I would never get out, cars just coming and coming. I'm sure it's not as bad as the 'big city', but it's a little unusual here. |

As one who has traveled up and down the Atlantic Coast corridor, and lived in the NYC and Boston areas --
The DC area has without a doubt the absolute worst rushhour traffic I have ever seen. The suburbs of MD and northern VA have exploded so much in population growth that there is no way the roads can keep up with it. The DC metro is great, though. Unfortunately, the roads get clogged with a lot of commuters getting to the Metro! |

Wide open spaces and fairly low population (a province the size of Texas but only one million people), so traffic is pretty darn good here on the highways. I drove three hours south this past weekend to visit my mom- I betcha on the one highway, single lane two hour drive stretch- we maybe met about ten other cars Friday around suppertime. In TWO hours! Beat that. In the city (I live just north of Saskatoon, pop 200,000) at rush hour in some areas it can get backed up pretty bad. The planning has been done kind of stupidly in some ways too. My commute into the city every morning to work is about ten minutes, clear double lane highway all the way, no complaints. ![]() |

before i moved closer to work it would take me between 1.25 to 1.5 hrs to travel aprox 26 miles. same thing on the return trip. the 405, 101, 5, 118 - they are all horrible! it was the most stressful time of the day AND unpaid! now i work 6 miles from work and it takes me about 30 minutes.

Memphis is bad at rush hour, decent all other times of the day. My 17.4 mile commute (mostly interstate) takes me 35 minutes on a good day 1 hour on a bad (happens at least once a week).
I have yet to encounter anywhere as bad as driving through Atlanta. 1 hour 40 minutes to go 22 miles on the interstate loop. I think they should nuke it and start over. ![]() |

I work 3 miles from home so don't deal with it but the traffic in Chicago is the worst.
I like how no matter what the weather is, it is cause for the bad traffic. Rain, snow and now the sun. Traffic reporters here are now blaming "the bright sun" for slowing people down and causing traffic delays. What next, dry pavement delays? ![]() |
