New Political Regime?

Who in the elitist Demoncratic Party will hold leadership postions in the future and give your opinion why they should take their seat at the table, the top dogs in the DNC are:
  • John Kerry
  • Nancy Pelosa
  • Jesse Jackson
  • Al Gore
  • Al Sharpton
  • Hillary Clinton
  • Howard Dean
  • Teddy Kennedy
These are the leaders of this party, state your case on how they can fix this screwed up county... Let's stick with these quality leaders first and then we can talk about any other up and comers...

I don't appreciate your tone of "voice", I could just as easily come up with an equally "scary" group of Republicans.

Anyhoo --

Nancy Pelosi, Teddy Kennedy and Howard Dean ALREADY hold leadership positions in the party.
Teddy is just riding out in the Senate until he decides to retire, so it's not as though he will go any higher.
If the House of Reps gets a Democratic majority, Pelosi will be Speaker. I do not think she will last long under the barrage that will come from Republican backlash. Speaker will be as high as she ever goes, and that has rarely served as a springboard to a higher political position.
Howard Dean has already been marginalized on the national political scene. But he will be a hero if the 2006 elections see huge gains in Democratic winnings. If that happens, you can expect him to retain leadership of the DNC for quite a while, and to be a kingmaker in the race for the 2006 presidential nomination.
John Kerry has shot his wad on the national level. He will ride out in the Senate until he decides to retire, unless he gets SOD in an '08 Democratic administration.
I think Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton can be seen as leaders only because they impose themselves as leaders; they don't have anything to offer. They were only window-dressing for Ned Lamont, and their voices will fade as Barack Obama and more in his mold continue to rise.
I think Hillary would be smart to stay in the Senate for at least another full term. In fact, I would recommend she stay there, or bounce between the Senate and the Cabinet and corporate or NPO gigs. She is a truly bright lady -- and to lose that intellect would be a waste for the nation -- but I just don't see her as having Presidential leadership.

Really, I don't see anyone on your list as exerting Presidential-style leadership for the party. But they can act as shepherds for a leader who comes along.

Your list omits Bill Clinton, who still exercises enormous influence over the party.
Your list omits Barack Obama, who will be huge after serving a term or two in the Senate.

For 2008, I see John Edwards coming back with a vengeance, to get the nomination. Possibly with Barack Obama as VP, or Evan Bayh, or Mark Warner. In retrospect, Edwards had the right message for the time, which will resonate even more the second time around. He has great human interest with his son's death and his wife's treatment for breast cancer, he is someone smart, who can speak in coherent sentences, and I think he has demonstrated that he cares about people. Yes, he got very wealthy caring for people as a trial lawyer, but get over it.

I see the umbrella theme for the Democratic Party as being the party that prizes human capital, especially the worth of American citizens.
Including
a withdrawal plan from Iraq.
a national project to bring alternate energies to the forefront:
nuclear, solar, wind, hydro, fuel cell
a renewed respect for the professional class (doctors, lawyers, etc.)
Minimum wage hike
A re-assessment of the overemphasis on testing in the public education system
A re-assessment of national standards for education achievement milestones in math and language arts
Government-based healthcare system
A re-assessment of the war on terror, making sure we are using "best-odds" techniques rather than PC feel-good measures

I would agree with you that the current powers-that-be we now see in the Democratic Party don't really give one much hope that things would change drastically if they regain power from the Republicans in November. But there are some politicians on the horizon that offer intriguing possibilities.

Eight years of Clinton, and none of this was done?
