Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo?

I am thinking about going to Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo. Does anyone have suggestions of where to stay. I like Playa and am looking for something similar. Small town with lots of restuarants and shopping but still with the feel of being in Mexico. Beach is a must.

Sounds like you would prefer Zihua over Ixtapa. Ixtapa is to Zihua like Puerto Adventuras is to Playa, kind of.

Ixtapa has the high rise nicer hotels and the wide beach with crashing surf; it's just more commercial/clean/manicured (yet nothing like Cancun! )

We are staying at the Hotel Irma in Zihua in February (going for two weeks- staying here

the first week, in Ixtapa).

The Irma gets great reviews, it's very nice, basic and inexpensive ($85 a night), on a smaller, swimmable beach (La Madera), cliffside with a great view.

Other hotels in Zihua:

But if sleepy and super quiet/relaxing is what you are looking for, you might want to try either Troncones or Barra di Potosi, both are about a half hour from Zihua.
