No.

In Oregon we vote by mail and provide a signature that is checked with our registration signature. I also seem to remember signing at the polls in Illionois.

They do here, though prob not 100% of them. It is a computerized process to the the registration signature and visually match it with the one on the ballot

In NC, It is only necessary the FIRST time you vote:

(a) Voting in Person - An individual who has registered to vote by mail on or after January 1, 2003 and has not previously voted in an election that includes a ballot item for federal office in North Carolina, shall present to a local election official at a voting place before voting there one of the following:

A current and valid photo identification

A copy of one of the following documents that shows the name and address of the voter: a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document.

All times after that in the State:

Upon entering the voting place, you must give your name and address to the election officials. If you are properly registered, the election official will give you the proper ballot and an optical scan marking pen. You will be directed to a voting booth to mark the ballot and then deposit it into the optical scan vote tabulator.

From CNN.com

(CNN) -- Just weeks before crucial midterm elections, a new poll says nearly three quarters of Americans see Congress as out of touch, much as they did in 1994, the last time the minority party took control of Capitol Hill.

Seventy-four percent of respondents to a new Opinion Research poll say Congress is generally out of touch with average Americans. That's up from 69 percent who agreed with that view in a January poll this year.

In 1994, 75 percent of respondents to a CNN poll also said Congress was out of touch. Voters then proceeded to vote out Democrats in both the House and the Senate, a sweep that hadn't been seen in the House since 1952. (Watch to see if the middle-class American dream is broken -- 1:50)

Recent polls have suggested increased voter interest in this election, as growing unpopularity over the U.S.-led war in Iraq and scandals in Congress have boiled over into the political arena. (Full story)

The GOP's hold on power in Congress is slim. Democrats need only a net gain of 15 seats to retake the House and six to control the Senate. Political watchers say those majorities, especially the one in the House, may be threatened.

According to the poll, 58 percent of respondents said they believe most members of Congress are focused on special interests, and 38 percent said the legislators pay more attention to constituents.

A bit of whimsy --

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20061023/D8KUHRV80.html

The buxom Libertarian candidate for Alabama Governor has a great slogan:
More of these boobs (her cleavage)
And less of these boobs (other politicians)

Polls schmolls!

Didnt they have Kerry winning the last election?

I know for a fact that they had Jesse Ventura not having a chance in Minnesota a number of years back and he won. I bet we could come up with countless examples of polls being pretty inaccurate.

I find it amusing that the Dems get all excited every election relying on these polls and then find themselves terribly disappointed. I wonder how many will threaten to move to Canada again?
