Reef Playacar for NYE
I'll be visisting the Reef Playacar for NYE this year and I had a few questons.
-How is NYE in PDC? Is there a lot of action or is it going to be a ghostown? -Has anyone visited the reef playacar lately? Everything if found searching is from either 04 or 05. Obviously my question is how is this resort? -Weather? Is it usually warm enough in Dec and Jan to swim? -I'm actually going with a decent sized group and we want to Party like we're in Cancun but not have to be in Cancun. Would it be feasible to go to Cancun for the night? I guess my next question is how do you get back at 5am? Thanks in advance! |

PDC is packed on NYE - trust me when I say you it is the furthest thing from a ghost town!
I have never stayed at the Playacar, I've only seen it and that was prior to Hurricane Wilma last October. But in MY opinion, this is just an "OK" resort. It's not rated highly so those going typically are not expecting a 5 star property. Some that have gone love it and others do not care for it. I do not have this resort on my "recommend to clients" list because I simply feel there are better resorts out there for about the same amount of money. Again, this is only MY opinion (gathered from past clients and personal observation), doesn't mean that YOU won't enjoy the hotel. There are trip reports and coments on this board from people who have been there and have enjoyed this hotel so I suggest you do a search for them and read what they have to say. Weather is weather, it changes so it's impossible to predict if it will be a bit on the chilly side when you're there or on the warm side. I've been in early December a few times and it is been both VERY warm and quite chilly. Bascially, the ocean will be warmer than the pools and should be warm enough to swim in. I can't imagine why you'd want to go all the way into Cancun. It's a pretty long drive and for a big group of people, you might be better off renting your own transfer vehicle that will get you there, take you from place to place and then get you back. A public bus from Playa will take you into the city of Cancun but then you'd need to get yourself from there to the hotel zone if you want to visit the discos and dance clubs. Getting home at 5AM? Good luck! Can't help you there, I don't know if the bus runs 24 hours/day. Can't even imagine all of you getting in cabs for the ride back, not to mention the cost! My suggestion is to stay in PDC for your nightlife - there are many places to go that stay open late, especially during the holiays when the town will be full of people. You may not find Coco Bongo kind of dance clubs but if you ask me, that's a good thing! |

My wife and I went to Reef Playacar in May. It was our first trip to Mexico. We loved it. The staff were very accomodating, the beach was clean and uncrowded. At the time there was close to 50-60 feet of beach. I did some snorkling there that was fun but there is mostly sand there, no coral or rocks. Some fish up to 12". The food was good, not everything was my favorite but there was always something tastey at each meal. We walked to PDC once or twice per day, enjoyed the Tequila Barrel the most. RP is also walking distance to the ferry to Cozumel. Bottom line - I would go there again. Have fun - bottoms up. T ![]() |

definitely do nye in pdc.
reef club is close into town. can even walk to town. not sure that you can walk completely down the beach to get there. i stayed there in 97 and we could walk most of the way but one area had sand erosion and retaining wall for a house. had to walk around that portion. this is my third trip in a row for nye. have fun and enjoy |
