Iberostar Tucan Resort Lots of questions
Have booked 2 rooms for my family at Tucan. Am wondering what the dress code (or wear) is for restaurants and disco. Are men required to wear pants? Are shorts appropriate everywhere? Teenagers are interested in disco--is it dressy?
How early does one need to get up to reserve a shaded space on the beach? How far a walk is it into town? I love to walk! Can you walk into other resorts off the beach? AND I would love ideas for "field trips"- Cozumel? Ruins? Some kind of water park? Are these worth it? Never been to an all inclusive. We are very excited. |

I'm interested in hearing more too-- My husband and i will be there for a week starting 3/11/03. From what i understand, the reservations-required resturants will not accpet shorts or sleeveless shirts on men. We plan a trip to Xel-ha as we loved it so much on a half-day tour we wanted to spend more time there this trip.
When are you going, readergal? |

It's been 3 years since we stayed at the IB Tucan, however, when we were there the dress code in the restaurants did not allow shorts for men or women. Not sure about the dress code for the disco as we always ended up in Playa in the evenings.
I don't recall a lot of shade at the beach, only around the pool. And to reserve a seat you had to pretty much get up at the crack of dawn. The IB Tucan is one of the AIs farthest from town. The walk is 1.5 miles +/-. We took taxis most of the time which they will call for you right at the lobby. The cost back then was $4 USD each way though I believe that it may be more like $5 USD now. As for day trips and tours, they are varied and many. Many of the tours can be done just as easily and more affordably on your own. The ruins of Tulum are beautiful and there's a nice beach there. If you go on a Sunday admission is free. Xel-Ha is a wonderful water park in a fabulous setting. The snorkeling is great and floating down the river in a tube is very relaxing. If you need more ideas, check out the Topics in General section of the forum as there is a wealth of ideas and info on things to do. Have a great trip! |

we found the dress code for the resturants to be a lot less demanding than we expected. we were a bit overdressed as we took the very casual wear & then the "special restaurant" clothes. It seems that a short sleeved collar type shirt of almost any kind w/ decent slacks/chinos would be fine for the guys & the ladies can get away w/ almost anything that covers the essentials & is in good taste. Have you heard that you can request additional dinners (beyond the 2 per weekly stay) at the special restaurants? They take your name for a standby list & then notify you (note to your room) if you can get in for that night.
I could usually get one of the palapa huts by getting down to the pool around 630 a.m. Lounge chairs are much easier unless you needed more than two & wanted the shade (as we did). Hope you enjoy! (Thinking about pdc is helping get me thru this cold winter!) |

restaurant and shade
Just came back last Friday...the restaurants required a dress/sundress/slacks on women. dress pants/colored jeans/ khakis on men...no shorts...short sleeves are fine, as the weather is hot there!!
we were up early for the sunrises on the beach we were up and out about 5:45..sun up around 6:15 we would claim our seats with our towels, watch the sun come up..nap a bit, leave the towels, go for breakfast...go change to swimsuits..head back to our seats on the beach under the palapa hut!!! there seems to be an etiquette there...if there is a towel on the chair, its taken!!! and no one bothers your beach bag or book or shoes or whatever!! just keep valuables in the safe in your room, you don't need them anyway!!! |

You will love the Tucan. It is clean, pleasant and very beautiful. Slacks and a sport shirt for guys and anything decent for women. Some of the best service you will find anywhere. Cabs are 4usd or ride a bike from the hotel. either way you will love it.

Iberostar Tucan/Queztal
:P
Last June 2003 we spent a week at Iberostar Queztal (only difference in the two is the company that books your travel, same restaurants same place... Anyway I do have some words of advice BRING A COUPLE OF YOUR OWN BEACH TOWELS. They only let you have one at a time and they are small. The place is awesome though with the monkeys and birds and stuff. No shade at the beach, get up early to put your towels on the chairs especailly if you want a palapa. Disco is whatever you want to wear no dress code as I remember. Kids any age can go into the disco too. Bring lots of sunscreen the sun is 10 times more intense then any place I have ever been. If you have any more questions I would love to help you write me at monkeymom@mindspring.com Have a wonderful time. This year we are going to try Moon Palace just for the change but the Iberostar experience was wonderful and memorable!!! |
